Position Requirements

Represent Christian faith in action.

Some post secondary in education in an associated position such as education, social work, counselling or youth care.

Experience working children or youth in a group setting.

Familiarity with United Church Ethos.

Ability to build a positive rapport with children, youth and their families

Excellence in interpersonal and communication skills.

Excellence in organizational skills.

Vulnerable Sector Security Clearance

Valid Driver Licence

Commitment to attending St. Andrew’s Sunday morning services.

Creativity in recreation and artistic activities (music, drama, dance, visual arts)


Job Description

St. Andrew’s United Church is looking for an energetic, spirit led, youth leader, willing to share their own walk and nurture the faith of others.  This person will work with our Christian Education Ministry to:

Prepare, lead and deliver Sunday School program on Sunday mornings (primarily working with youth in grades 6-8) and
In partnership with volunteer youth leaders, the Youth Leader will plan, organize and run weekly Youth Group events and activities that provide opportunities for the Youth

to have fun together and enrich their relationships with each other
to reach out to the community beyond the church doors
to allow for a safe space to ask their spiritual questions and to encourage their faith journey.

3) Encourage youth to participate in wider church (retreats, events, conferences, etc.)

4) Network with other church communities


Time Commitment

Sunday Morning Responsibilities – 6 hours per week

Sunday mornings 9am-12pm.  The rest of the 6 hours each week is for preparation of teaching material, and other administrative tasks such as coordinating teachers for Sunday School. Provide education, guidance and support to the volunteer Sunday School teachers to facilitate a strong Sunday school program. Teach weekly middle age school class.


Youth Group - 4 hours/week.

Youth Group typically meets every other week.  This is often on Friday nights, but can be at other times, subject to availability of the Youth Leader and other volunteer youth leaders.  The 4 hours includes the activity time, plus preparation, communication, and other administrative tasks as required.



Other (up to 6 hours/week) Hours may vary by week: Participation in wider church activities as required. Continuing education opportunities will be encouraged and some compensation/financial supports available.


The position is for approximately 16 hours a week. This is an excellent opportunity for a person, with some post secondary education, who is interested in working with youth and gaining leadership experience while exploring life through faith.

Salary:  $20 / hour
