Position Description

The Interim Camp Director role is a unique and important one for the camp community. The role will be in charge of camp registration, budget-keeping, staff recruitment/training/supervision/debrief, parent communication, and oversight of all programmatic aspects of 7 weeks of Day Camps and Overnight camp.  This individual will be able to grab hold of, clearly articulate and execute on a vision for camp in this interim year. The person in this role will report to, submit timesheets to, and be supported by Knox’s Director of Community Engagement Ministries and the Knox Camp Team. 

Competencies, Gifting and Qualifications

  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus which is evident in a dedication to serve Him 
  • Mandatory to have a home church, asset if individual attends Knox Church regularly
  • Administrative, flexible, creative and accountable
  • Experience working in (complex) camp environments, with a problem-solving and team-minded attitude  
  • Experience supporting conflict resolution and resourcing leaders conducting behaviour management
  • Experience as a spiritual leader & active mentor to children, youth, and young adults (ages 6-21) 
  • Agreement with and adherence to the Knox Church Lifestyle & Morality statement
  • Current, clear Vulnerable Sector Screening 

Areas of Responsibility

Orientation & Administration |  approx. 60 hours (7.5/wk) in December & January — start: December 4th, 2017

  • Respond in timely manner to registration/bursary requests; other parent e-mails
  • Update social media platforms
  • Possibility of working remotely with the exception of attending 1 Camp Team meeting and initial Orientation dates in December

Preparation | approx. 175 hours (average 10/wk) in February, March, April, May

  • Communicate with DCEM needs from Knox Community — including volunteers for Day Camps and Overnight
  • Respond in timely manner to registration/bursary requests; other parent e-mails
  • Plan Pre-Camp Training Sessions: Knox Camp Core Values, Servant Leadership, Day-in-the-Life, & execute Pre-Camp Training Week
  • Finalize budget allocation with DCEM
  • Regularly update social media platforms
  • Lead community advertising efforts in community and at Knox alongside Camp Team, including Annex Street Festival Booth
  • Process applications, perform interviews, hire candidates alongside Camp Team
  • Organize and facilitate Lead Team training day — dates TBD and communicated at interviews 
  • Possibility of working remotely with the exception of attending 2 Camp Team meetings, all staff/LIT interviews

Day Camps | approx 150 hours (average 15/wk) in June, July 

  • Set goals with & supervise LIT Coordinator, Kids Program, Youth Program, Kids Coordinator, Youth Coordinator roles
  • Attend and support Monday morning registration
  • Attend and support Friday afternoon Parent Program
  • Assist Kids and Youth Coordinators with Parent communication
  • Oversee all Incident Reporting and corresponding processes

Overnight & Summer Wrap-Up| approx 130 hours (average 22.5/wk in August & 7.5/wk in September) 

  • Recruit & distribute information to Overnight staff and volunteers
  • Respond in timely manner to registration/bursary requests; other parent e-mails
  • Coordinate all transportation, coordination with Fraser Lake Camp, cabin placements, staff roles
  • Support staff planning program, Bible study, and worship for Overnight
  • Oversee all aspects of program, Bible study, and response to all Incidents Reporting and corresponding processes
  • Facilitate Summer Staff debrief in last week of August
  • Ensure cleanliness of Camp Office

Commitment & Compensation

This role is a 10-month commitment (approx 500 hours total) between December 4th, 2017 and September 30, 2018. 

Time commitment will range from approximately 7h/week in the winter to 20h/week in the summer.

Total Compensation:  $ 9825 (approximately $19.75/hr) + 4% vacation pay
