Overview:

The Evangelical Free Church of Medicine Hat is currently seeking to fill the ministry position of Pastor.  While this role involves many specific tasks and functions, some of which are listed below, we desire a man called by God to shepherd the flock of God here in Medicine Hat for Lord willing, the long-term. His call to pastor will be evident in his life as the fruit produced by his faith and call will be consistent with the gospel and doctrine he preaches.  Furthermore, this call will be evident in his burden to feed the flock through the faithful and expositional preaching of the Word of God and to protect the flock from those both inside and out of the church who would seek to divide or lead some astray by the promotion of false doctrine.    

 

Who we are:

The Evangelical Free Church of Medicine Hat is a congregation of approximately 100-150 people in Medicine Hat Alberta, Canada.  Our makeup includes people of various sociological and economic background, the majority being families with children.  We recognize that salvation is found in Christ alone by faith alone, yet he chooses to use His church to proclaim His gospel.  Our aim is to faithfully and tirelessly fulfill the command of Christ to make disciples by enfolding the lost, equipping the saints, and entrusting them to further ministry all for the glory of God. We hold the Word of God in the highest regard as it is His divine revelation handed down once and for all and it stands over us in all matters of life.  We apply a historical-grammatical-literal hermeneutic in our study and thereby derive our doctrine.   For further information on what we believe and teach please refer to our Statement of Faith and Distinctives on our website www.efreemh.com.     

 

Qualifications and Education

-Must meet the biblical character requirements for elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9);

-Must be in agreement with our Statement of Faith and What We Teach documents;

-Acquired education and training for the caring of the church and preaching of the Word (MDiv, ThM, DMin are preferred);

-Demonstrated proficiency at accurately and clearly expositing the Word of God;

-Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to converse with people of all walks of life;

-Must exhibit a desire for growth in his knowledge of God and the Scriptures through further study;

-Prior experience of 5+ years in a church of similar size is preferable;

-Possess skill as an administrator who can help cast vision and lead people in executing a plan to reach set goals;

-Must be willing and committed to exercise church discipline and work with fellow leaders in holding each other accountable.

 

Functions/Responsibilities:

-Serve along side the elders in shepherding the flock of God as a “first among equals.”

-Faithfully prepare and preach the Word of God during Sunday morning corporate worship services

-Work with the worship coordinator and team leaders to plan weekly corporate worship services.

-Serve his family, if applicable, as head of his household so as not to become disqualified from ministry. 

-Provide counselling on an individual basis to those inside and at times outside the congregation.  Where needed, include his wife when counselling women.

-Be available outside of regular church office hours for church family emergencies and hospital and home visitation.

-Be an active participant in church events, including small groups, men’s breakfasts, family events, VBS, attend, etc.

-Oversee internship program and give input into hiring of additional church staff.
