Position Description

Our downtown Toronto Chinatown site is currently seeking a part-time custodian who is proactive, reliable, responsible, and efficient with an understanding of proper cleaning methods and a proper respect for maintaining a place of worship.

The position is for 15 hours/week split among 2 or 3 days / nights for our two buildings.

Overview of Duties:

  • Keep all the buildings clean and assist with setting up rooms for presentations and other functions.
  • Keep a running inventory of all cleaning supplies and submitting purchasing requests when supplies get low.
  • Able to respond to repair calls for such activities as replacing a broken light, cleaning up a non-toxic spill and removing damaged office furniture.  
  • Typical duties include, but are not limited to: sweep, vacuum and mop the floor, refill liquid soap dispensers, refill paper dispensers, clean washrooms and kitchens. Dust and clean furniture, small appliances, counter-tops, walls.

Mandatory Qualification and Skills

  • Must be able to read and speak English.
  • Careful and thorough in his/her work.
  • Able to physically lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
  • Be observant, respectful, motivated, and committed to providing church members, visitors, and staff with a clean, orderly place to worship and congregate.  
  • Be knowledgeable and able to safely use cleaning chemicals, cleaning techniques and equipment to keep the buildings looking clean and professional.
  • Reliable.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.
  • Pass a background and security / police check.

Preferences

  • Able to work some weekends if required. Will be compensated if this exceeds 15 hours/week.
  • Ability to make basic repairs, including plumbing and electrical work
  • Has knowledge of WHMIS.
  • Flexibility to adjust their schedule to suit the needs of the church.
  • Previous custodial experience preferred.
  • Ability to remove graffiti.
