Position Description

Position Overview:

Forward Baptist Church is a diverse congregation that has been serving the Lord in the heart of Toronto for 104 years.  Our Youth & Young Adult Minister will shepherd our youth (junior and senior high) and young adults, providing oversight, vision, direction and leadership to our student ministries. We desire a vibrant student ministry to disciple and equip students in their journey and relationship with God, as well as reach students who do not know Jesus.  This role is pastoral in nature.  The Youth & Young Adult Minister will report to the supervising staff Elders of the church, who will disciple and mentor him with the intention of him growing into the role of pastor/elder and being formally recognized as such by the membership of the church.

Requirements:

  • Mature follower of Jesus Christ with character consistent with Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Timothy 3:1-7
  • A calling to pastoral ministry and a desire to be mentored and grow in order to fulfill this calling
  • Authentic lifestyle demonstrating consistent character and spiritual growth
  • Agreement with Forward baptist church statement of faith, church covenant, and other church policies, ability to pass
  • A commitment to the mission, vision and leadership of Forward Baptist Church
  • Bachelor of Theology or equivalent.

Responsibilities:

Youth Group - Grades 6 - 12: 45%

  • Recruit and train a leadership  team for this ministry
  • Help develop strategy and vision to grow this ministry
  • Lead weekly youth group for youth grades 6 - 12.  (Wednesdays 7:00-9:00 PM)
  • Develop and disciple student leaders
  • Make connections and develop friendships with teens (both churched and unchurched)
  • Plan & lead monthly youth ministry events, annual retreats, and summer camps
  • Develop opportunities for youth to serve as part of the local church
  • To promote fellowship and community among our students and Forward Baptist church finding creative ways to reach out to youth in our surrounding community

Young Adults Ministry: 25%

  • Develop strategy and vision for this ministry
  • Plan & lead young adult events and occasional retreats
  • Recruit and train a leadership team for this ministry
  • Develop opportunities for young adults to serve as part of the local church
  • To promote fellowship and community among our young adults and the larger body at Forward Baptist church

Kids Ministry - Grades 1 - 6: 10%

  • Develop and maintain an intentional long term plan for student ministries to thrive at Forward by investing in younger kids and their families. 
  • Jr youth - Plan and execute monthly Jr youth events for grades 3-6 (10 per year)
  • Assist with PA DAY Camps (Jk - Grade 6)  
  • Assist with various summer camps 

Other areas of Ministry Involvement: 10%

  • Involvement in Sunday morning church services
  • Preach 2-4 times a year
  • Regular involvement in other elements of the service such as call to worship, pastoral prayer, Scripture reading, etc
  • Serving on worship teams, host teams, A/V teams according to ability
  • Participation in church outreach ministries & other events
  • Monthly food bank ministry
  • Community events
  • Involvement with funerals, weddings, and pastoral care as appropriate
  • Participate in evangelism and discipleship in the broader church and surrounding community.
  • Creativity and innovation in using your spiritual gifts and abilities to further the Gospel in the beach hill community are encouraged.  This will be done in consultation with the Elders

Additional Duties: 10%

  • Attend weekly Staff meetings, Monthly deacons and elders board meetings and committee meetings
  • Submit weekly ministry report to supervisor, monthly update to deacons board/elders, submit a yearly student ministries budget and annual report.
