Position Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a part-time Children's Director at Southside Community Church. This is a contract position starting at 12 months with re-evaluation 2-month prior to the contract end. This position requires a commitment of 15 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of the children's ministry, including Sunday Kids Church
  • Create a safe and welcoming environment for children to learn and grow in their faith
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities for children
  • Build relationships with children and their families, providing pastoral care and support
  • Develop effective follow-up processes for new families
  • Recruit, train and provide leadership to volunteers in the children's ministry
  • Maintain Plan2Protect protocol and training for all kids’ workers
  • Schedule volunteers for all kids classes and events
  • Manage Safe check-in team, system and processes
  • Manage Nursery volunteers, systems, processes
  • Manage Grades 5, 6, 7 leaders
  • Oversee Kids@Southside preview element in Sunday Morning Service
  • Manage Kids@Southside annual budget
  • Be the point person for special events and activities for children and families requiring free babysitting at the church
  • Overseeing & coordinating Southside’s full-week summer VBS
  • Manage Kids@Southside’s Canada Summer Jobs interns

Immediate Goal

  • Create vision for multiple services of kids programming
  • Get Kids@Southside team prepared and equipped to run multiple services with kids programming by March 31, 2024
  • Staff kids programming for 2 services
  • Become proficient in using Notion, People Planning Center and Slack for team projects, volunteer scheduling and team communications.

Qualifications:

  • A strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and a passion for serving children
  • Previous experience in children's ministry or related field is preferred
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and volunteers
  • Flexibility to work on Sundays and occasional evenings
  • Freedom of conscious to teach harmoniously under our Christian & Missionary Alliance statement of faith

Schedule requirements:

  • Kids@Southside Director must be present for 40 Sunday’s per year (allowance for 12 Sunday’s offsite)
  • Kids@Southside Director isn’t required to be teaching Kids@Southside for all of those Sundays, but must be present and available for the Kids@Southside Team between 8:00am-12:00am for each of those Sunday’s
  • Kids@Southside Director may use any of the 12 Sunday’s offsite as paid training days visiting other children's ministries
  • Approval must be given ahead of time by direct oversight
  • Candidate will make Tuesday morning ministry team leaders meetings on a weekly basis (10am-11:30am)
  • In-person is expected, online on occasion is permitted with special permission
  • Weekly one-on-one with direct oversight (1-hour)
  • All other hours are flexible and at the Kids@Southside Directors discretion
  • All schedule requirements are subject to change by the Lead Pastor with 2-weeks advance notice

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Adding/Training/qualifying new Kids@Southside Teachers.
  • 2024: 3 new monthly teachers by 2025
  • Onboarding new adult and teenage volunteers.
  • 2024: net +10 monthly kids volunteers

Team

  • Kids@Southside director will report directly to the Lead Pastor
  • Work with the existing kids@southside leadership team and full volunteer roster

Compensation:

  • Discussed with the Lead Pastor
  • 15 hours/week on a 12-month contract
