About Joonim’s Presbyterian Church:

We at Joonim’s Church, Waterloo, would like to welcome and introduce you to our church community. Our objective is to be an Acts-like church. Joonim’s Church is an evangelical church of the Presbyterian Church of Canada (PCC).

This year, Joonim will celebrate its 19th anniversary.  In 2008 Joonim moved to its current location at Emmanuel United Church on Bridgeport Ave in uptown Waterloo.  The people of Joonim are committed to the ministry of our congregation to our community and the world. We strive to follow the example of Jesus by worshipping, serving, caring and responding to the love of God.

Joonim is an urban centered, self-sustaining congregation in the Presbytery of Waterloo-Wellington within the Presbyterian Church in Canada. At Joonim there are 165 active members  from the Kitchener-Waterloo and Region of Waterloo area. Korean is the language of worship, with the exception of the English Ministry, and day to day activities and business at the church.

Our Senior Minister

The Senior Minister will work alongside the session to provide spiritual   leadership, direction, and vision for our church and to help us to fulfill  our goal of being an Acts 2-like Church. Key areas of training, experience and passion are:

Leading worship and preaching

  • Planning and conducting regular and special worship services for the Joonim   congregational context.
  • Participate in or officiate at funerals, baptisms, and weddings.
  • Sunday Worship at Joonim is at 12:15 pm and 1:30 pm. Wednesday worship is at 7:30 pm and Saturday prayers at 6 am. Korean is the language of worship of the main Sunday Worship service, as well as meetings, fellowship events, and other aspects of congregational life.

Personal and Spiritual Development of the congregation including equipping church members to integrate their Christian faith with everyday life.

Motivate and equip the congregation as Jesus’ Disciples by leading discipleship and stewardship training, bible studies, etc.

Passion for and experience with university, young adult and youth Ministry

  • Ministering to College and University Students and young adults and youth. This ministry requires a minister with significant experience in young adult and youth ministry, and a passion to develop others to lead in this very important part of Joonim’s life.

Leadership and encouragement  of the Christian Education Team is an important quality for our new minister.

Pastoral Care: Identifying and responding to crisis care situations, member counseling, and visitation to church members’ homes, nursing homes and hospitals.

Who should apply?

Ordained ministers, in good standing with the Presbyterian Church in Canada (PCC) or M.Div. graduates of a college of the Presbyterian Church in Canada,

Ordained ministers, in good standing with their denomination, or M.Div. Graduate students of a college, affiliated with a recognized reform denomination, which is a member of the World Council of Reform Churches,

  • This includes the Presbyterian Church in Korea TongHap, HapDongChunTong, Dae Shin and the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea.
  • In North America, the Korean Presbyterian Church Abroad (KPCA), along with the Christian Reformed Church in North America, ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Reformed Church in America, United Church of Christ, Reformed Church in Canada/America.

Ordained ministers in good standing with a reform denomination, which is not a member of the world Council of Reformed Churches or M.Div. Graduate students of a college, affiliated with a reform denomination, which  has the same  doctrine, polity and discipline as the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

Proficiency in English: Applicants should have a “basic working knowledge of English as part of their M.Div. requirements,” to facilitate interviews, processes, meetings and documents of the PCC. The language of community and worship at Joonim is primarily Korean
