Position Description

Liberty For Youth (LFY) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that provides a prevention and intervention mentoring program aimed at youth, ages 12 to 25 and alumni beyond 25, living in the Hamilton and surrounding areas who are involved in, or at-risk of, criminal behaviour. We were founded in 2003 and supported through a network of donors, funders, churches, volunteers, staff and community partners.

We use an innovative and intensive mentoring model that strives for permanent behavioural change by building inner character, developing life and leadership skills and inspiring at-risk youth to become constructive members of the community.

We have 5 Mentorship Programs: Prodigal Sonz, Character Development, Bright Choices, LEAD, and LeadingWELL.

Liberty For Youth is looking for a female candidate to work with our female youths. 

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Facilitator contributes to the overall success of LFY by bringing their expertise and experience to the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and lead activities/lessons for youth enrolled in Liberty For Youth.
  • Transport youths to and from programming locations.
  • Attend scheduled outings and activities with the female youth (especially church on Sundays church and worship nights for those youth who choose to attend). 
  • Obtaining feedback from program participants regarding current programming
  • Connecting with youth participants on a weekly basis, via one-on-one visits, phone or zoom calls to maintain program involvement.
  • Communicate effectively with youth to determine their needs and interests, as well as with all other individuals within Liberty For Youth programming.
  • Remain acutely aware of the needs of the youth as a priority while effectively managing communications with all others involved (e.g Family, Probation Officers, Principals, Police Officers, Correctional Officers, etc.).
  • Ensure program information is accessible to appropriate individuals and concerned parties without breaching confidentiality.
  • Record information on Liberty For Youth’s matrix tool for reports and program impact concerning youth programs, costs, impact, numbers of participants, and equipment and facility use.
  • Provide ongoing reports about youth programs success and opportunities to Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure that all programs and activities are implemented according to relevant legislation, policies, procedures and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2-year College Diploma in Youth Studies or related.
  • Must have a Vulnerable Sector Police check that returns with no offences, charges, or sentences.
  • Must have a valid G-Class Ontario Driver’s Licence and a clean driving record.
  • Training in Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour is an asset.
  • Successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized and have excellent good communication skills. 

COMPENSATION

This is a permanent, full-time in-person position. This position starts at $20 per hour for 37.5 Hours per week. Working shifts will be from Tuesday - Saturday and some Evenings and Weekends are required. Shift hours are negotiable.

Our Mentoring Program is offered to disadvantaged, marginalized, and at-risk youth of every faith, ethnicity, nationality, or gender identity.
