About NABORS:

We are dedicated to supporting people with physical and developmental disabilities to have rich and full lives in community and have control over their lives.

NABORS circles of support are made up of our friends and families who freely give their time to assist us to make informed decisions, act on choices, manage our paid supports and feel safe. Members are supported to live in the homes of their choice and be fully included in the community.

About the Job:

The NABORS member currently hiring is seeking a candidate for a combined 15 hours a week, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11:30am – 7:00pm.

This job may start or end at Bayview/Cummer or Yonge/Eglinton in Toronto.

Hourly wage starts at 22.00 an hour.

Working with a young adult woman who lives on her own and collaboratively assisting her to achieve her goals through connecting member into community-based opportunities based on her interests and goals and ultimately building greater independence.

Problem solving with the member when facing challenges and constructing achievable self-supporting solutions that promote independence. Taking initiative to explore and find inclusive opportunities for the member based on her passions and interests to expand community while using exceptional organizational skills to plan timelines, organize a consistent schedule and providing structure to the daily needs and communication with the circle and other folks involved.

While not required, musically minded encouraged, member is a musical talent and often brings folks together through music.

The Support Worker provides support by:

  • Supporting her to get to know and enjoy spending time with people in her extended family, among friends and around her community
  • Supporting her to participate in local community activities, and to have a more active lifestyle
  • Finding and supporting more volunteering opportunities in her co-op apartment building and the nearby community
  • Assisting her to plan meals, make a shopping list, purchase groceries, put them away, clean up, etc.
  • Assisting with personal care, lunch prep and having lunch together at home
  • Assisting her with weekly chores assigned by her co-op apartment
  • Assisting her to try new activities and meet new people, with the help of her support circle and family
  • Each shift may start or end either at Bayview/Cummer or Yonge/Eglinton

Requirements:

  • 3 doses for the covid vaccine with documentation
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (we will assist with this)
  • Valid emergency First Aid and CPR certification
  • Comfortable and eager to learn, with an open mind to share gifts and talents with another person
  • While not required, an interest in music would be an asset
  • Patience and encouragement about trying new things.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic support approach

  • Good initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Comfortable with personal care
  • Committed to providing person-centered care in an authentic way that is meaningful to the supported member.
  • Committed to working as an extension of the supported member.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to take initiative and work independently to set goals and priorities outlined by the supported member.
  • Ability and comfort to plan, prioritize, organize tasks and work with limited direct day-to-day supervision.
  • Confident in exercising independent judgment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong skills in conflict resolution with the ability to apply sound problem solving where needed.

The hiring is conditional upon clearing a Vulnerable Sector Police check. Emergency First Aid & CPR will be required before working.
