Position Description

Position: Assistant Principal with potential to become Principal

Responsible to: Principal

Hours of Work: Part time leading to fulltime

Salary: To be discussed

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Assistant Principal provides assistance to the school principal in the evaluation and modification of the instructional programs offered by Mount Salem Christian School. Lead teachers by example on how to integrate the Bible into every subject area. The Assistant Principal supports the management of school, human and financial resources, equipment, buildings and grounds. Establish effective relationships with students, parents, staff, community groups and support staff. Responsible for supporting the principal in providing a safe and secure learning environment for students and staff.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

These examples are illustrative and are not all inclusive.

  • Assist the principal in defining the school’s mission and communicating goals and expectations of the total school program.
  • Adhere to, and comply with, all MSCS policies, regulations, and operating procedures.
  • Provide instructional leadership, along with the principal, for the implementation of the curriculum.
  • Assist the principal in supervising the instructional program of the school as well as providing
  • instructional leadership.
  • Assist the principal in monitoring and assessing student achievement and participation in outcomes with appropriate data collection and analysis.
  • Assist the principal in supervising and evaluating the effectiveness of personnel.
  • Support the principal in the process of continuous school improvement.
  • Assist in the implementation of school wide supervision plans that establish and maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Create a productive work climate by gaining the cooperation of staff and students.
  • Plan and engage in professional activities, which contribute to leadership development.
  • Assist in determining and implementing school organization, student placement, evaluation, and programs to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and community.
  • Assist the principal in supervision and oversight of school operations.
  • Exercise initiative, tact, and good judgment in dealing with others.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Staff Meetings – as needed
  • Discipline - as needed
  • Order all textbooks
  • Schedules – especially yard duty, bathroom break, and before and after school supervision
  • Assist with Events Planning & Coordinating
  • Elementary Handbook Revisions
  • Semi Annual and Annual Membership Meeting Reports
  • Assist with Student Registration Interviews and Testing – as needed
  • Mail – as needed
  • Water flushing and sampling

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Affirms he/she is a “born again” Christian who knows Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and that they are consistently striving to grow in that relationship by regular time in God’s word and church attendance.

The assistant principal accepts without verbal or mental reservations both the Statement of Faith and the Educational Philosophy and Objectives of Mount Salem Christian School and is committed to upholding them.

The assistant principal gives testimony that he/she has a sense of God's will, that Christian education is his/her calling, and that working at MSCS is God's direction.

The assistant principal acknowledges that he/she is fully aware of his/her obligation under provincial law regarding child abuse reporting requirements and that he/she will fulfill those obligations.

At least 3 years of teaching experience in a Christian School.

Demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy, having a basic proficiency in doing word processing, creating and using a spreadsheet, e-mailing, and accessing the Internet.

A bachelor’s degree is recommended; Bachelor of Education preferred.
