Position Description

The Family Life Pastor/Director plays an integral role in providing complete oversight to the children and youth ministry at GKMC. They lead a dedicated team of staff and volunteers in creating engaging and impactful experiences that nurture the faith of children and teens, as well as support families in their spiritual journey.
 

The primary focus of this role is to cast a vision and implement a structure that facilitates a clear path of discipleship and growth for children and youth. This person will need to lead, recruit, motivate, empower, and train staff and lay leaders who will provide a large portion of the hands-on ministry.

 

Accountable To: Lead Pastor

Category of Employment: Full-time ($55,000-$65,000 plus benefits)

Office Hours: Average of 45 hours per week, with the exception of heavy ministry seasons.

 

Qualifications

  • Exhibits a meaningful and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Engages in regular and ongoing accountability.
  • Must have a Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent in a related field.
  • Must have experience leading, directing and conducting a variety of teams.
  • Believes that God is working through GKMC and recognizes that this work is important and deserves our very best.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to cast vision, develop strategies, and mobilize teams toward a common goal.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to connect with children, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • Proficiency in digital platforms and technology, with a keen understanding of how to leverage digital tools and resources to enhance family ministry experiences and effectively engage with families in a digital environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other ministry leaders and teams within the church.

Duties and Responsibilities 

General:

  • Assist in establishing ministry goals and objectives, and individual tactics that support the mission and vision of Global Kingdom Ministries.
  • Propose and administer the annual budget for respective ministries.
  • Participation in staff meetings and other required staff events.

 

Vision and Leadership:

  • Alongside the leadership team, develop and effectively communicate a compelling vision and strategy for Family Life Ministries that highlights the importance of partnering with parents and integrating faith into everyday life.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends in family ministry, particularly those relevant to engaging young people effectively, and implement strategies accordingly.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the children and youth ministry teams, inspiring and guiding them in carrying out the mission of the church.
  • Collaborate with other ministry leaders to establish a unified approach to family ministry that aligns with the overall vision of the church.
  • Oversee and execute the Performance Management Process with Family Life staff

 

Ministry Development and Implementation:

  • Oversee the planning, development, and implementation of age-appropriate programs and curriculum tailored to children from birth to grade 8, with a focus on establishing a solid biblical foundation, facilitating engaging experiences, and transitioning to each new developmental stage.
  • Create intentional pathways for the spiritual growth of children, youth, and their families, incorporating various elements such as large-group gatherings, small groups, events, and resources that assist families in their discipleship journey.
  • Connect families with opportunities to serve outside of GKMC to discover ways to share God's love by being a healthy and helpful presence in the broader community.
  • Conduct strategic evaluations of children and Family Life Ministries and events.
  • Provide relevant resources to families that would help them with their spiritual journey and engage them in discipleship beyond programs and events.
  • Connect and be present with community organizations and schools, building relationships and showing the love of Jesus by helping meet practical needs, and serving our broader community. 

 

Volunteer Recruitment and Development:

  • Recruit, train, and empower a team of committed volunteers who are passionate about ministering to children, youth and their families.
  • Provide ongoing training, support, and mentorship to volunteers, equipping them with the necessary skills and resources needed to serve effectively in their roles.

 

Pastoral Care and Family Support:

  • Cultivate a culture of care and support for families, offering resources, guidance, and encouragement to parents as they navigate the challenges of raising children and youth in the faith.
  • Create opportunities for families to connect, grow, and support one another, fostering a sense of community within the church.

 

Safety and Security:

  • Maintain and regularly update safety protocols and procedures to safeguard the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of children within the ministry. Implement necessary measures to keep the protocols current and effective.
  • Comply with all relevant legal requirements, including child protection laws, and ensure proper background checks are conducted for staff and volunteers.

 

GKMC’s Family Ministries currently include:

  • Sunday School from 0-8
  • Thursday night ministries from grades 1-12
  • Seasonal kids praise from grades 1-8 (Saturday mornings)
  • Moms and tots small group
  • Weekly basketball outreach
  • Baby blessing discipleship process
  • Christmas musical in partnership with gatherings team
  • March break & summer camps
  • Youth retreat
  • Annual Plan to Protect training for all children and youth workers
