Position Description

Toronto Chinese Baptist Church (TCBC) is seeking an assistant pastor to work with out English Pastor to shepherd our English congregation as well as to expand our ministry by witnessing and evangelizing university students and young adults in downtown Toronto, in obedience to the Great Commission by our Lord Jesus Christ. 

TCBC was founded in 1967, of evangelical faith and is a Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ) member church. 

The church is located at 72-78 Beverley Street, within walking distance from University of Toronto, St. George campus. We are just south of the Art Gallery of Ontario and across the street from Grange Park. 

TCBC has 3 congregations: Cantonese congregation (200+ congregants); Mandarin congregation (150+ congregants) and English (100+ congregants).

In addition to our weekly Sunday worship service, our English congregation also has a youth ministry headed by church members, a Christian education ministry that nurtures disciples through Sunday classes and small groups throughout the week. Currently, about 2/3 of the congregation regularly attends a discipleship class or small group.

The new pastor will work in team setting made up of our English Pastor and the English Ministry committee. She or he will be accountable to the Board of Directors. Her or his focus will be on discipleship and evangelism to university students and young adults living in downtown Toronto.

There will be ample opportunity for developing pastoral skills in key church ministries: preaching, teaching, university and community outreach and next generation (children and youth) ministries, and provide pastor care for members in crisis. 

Applicants must be:

• born again Christians
• seminary graduates with an M.Div. or equivalent degree
• baptized by immersion
• willing to work with pastoral team and church leadership structure

They are NOT required to be of Chinese ethnicity but willing to appreciate, respect and learn about Chinese culture and heritage

Potential applicants are encouraged to watch our on-line service through our YouTube channel and attend our English Service in-person held at 10:00am on Sundays.
