Position Description

Duff’s is seeking a half-time (20-25 hours/week) “Pastoral Leader” for a one-year contract position. The contract is renewable for an additional two years.

The church building is located only steps from the 401 at an interchange on a major road which provides access to Guelph. The Duff’s congregation is characterized by strong, committed leadership seeking to make a difference in our community and the world.

Pastoral Focus:

The Pastoral Leader of Duff’s Church will pursue the continued renewal of the congregation with a strong focus on pastoral care. They will lead the effort to welcome newcomers and strengthen existing ministries and activities by supporting and working with current leaders. The successful candidate will also mentor and develop new leaders for existing and emerging areas of service.

Since the pandemic an effort to reconnect with members and adherents of Duff’s has been very successful. The pastoral leader will continue to build on this success through regular pastoral contact and visitation, inviting members and adherents to participate in the visioning of Duff’s future for the next decades.

Worship: Duff’s weekly worship hour is Sunday at 10:30 am followed by a time of fellowship.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will:

• Be a Committed Christian
• Have experience in congregational leadership and worship.
• Possess a passion for pastoral care in regular and crisis visitation.
• Enjoy welcoming people to the congregation, making them feel welcome.
• Have demonstrated achievement in leadership and the development of other leaders.
• Theological education (seminary or otherwise) is an asset, but not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for pastoral care and visitation
• Reaching out to newcomers and longtime church members.
• Identify and develop new leaders for the congregations’ ministries
• Meet regularly with the Church Administrator on congregational matters
• Meet weekly/semi-weekly with the Music Director for worship planning
• Plan and lead worship services, including preaching, as required.
• Lead Bible Study on a regular basis.

Compensation:

• Duff’s offers a competitive salary and housing allowance which meets or exceeds the requirements of a stated supply (contract) ministry position as required by the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
• Four weeks of paid vacation. (Note: Duff’s is closed the month of July)
• Participation in the PCC group benefits plan.
• Two weeks continuing education.
• Travel Allowance.
