Position Description

Registered Social Worker/Psychotherapist/Therapist

General Description of Position: This is for an Associate position who is a Registered/Licensed-Therapist/Psychotherapist working for Tina J. Smith & Associates. This individual shall be responsible for providing counselling/psychotherapy based on a shared view of Ministry as a Believer in Jesus Christ by his/her commitment to Christian values that create an environment of trust, cooperation, grace, and enrichment for clients in this practice.


1. Must have a minimum qualification of a Masters degree in a mental health field from an accredited academic institution.

2. Must be registered with a regulated governing body (College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, The College of Psychologists of Ontario or College of Psychotherapy).

3. At least two years of counselling experience is preferred.

4. Must maintain up to date professional liability and general liability insurance coverage, each in an amount not less than $2,000,000.00 per occurrence or showing proof of professional liability insurance once hired.

5. Must be able to articulate how s/he integrates his/her commitment to Christ in their professional practice.

6. Must have a character, integrity and be above reproach in all areas of conduct and life, including the ability to maintain confidentiality.

General Responsibilities and Duties:

• Provide individual, couples, and family counselling. 

• Perform assessments and treatment planning to address the needs of the client(s).

• Advocate on behalf of clients where necessary for further supports in the community.

• It is expected to participate in ongoing continuing education and personal/professional skill development.

• Responsible for keeping oneself abreast of current developments in the state of the mental health field. This includes general awareness of areas that are not considered to be each therapist’s specialty areas.

• It is expected to develop an area or areas of clinical specialty for which s/he can provide in-depth assessment and intervention, such as the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a highly effective trauma-based therapy. 

• Consultation with Tina J. Smith pertaining to client files within this practice and educational upgrading.

• Maintain accurate clinical records and up-to-date schedule on shared clinical practice software called Owlpractice.

• Understand areas of Conflict of Interest that could affect this clinical practice and the therapist’s role within the community.

Salary/Wage and Hours:

• Referrals received from Tina J. Smith & Associates to establish client-base.

• Position is based upon a self-employed contract where associate’s salary is dependent upon a percentage of the hourly rate charged per client seen.

• Hours of practice are negotiable with the anticipation that the Associate may increase hours, as s/he becomes known as an associate of Tina J. Smith & Associates.
