Job Synopsis

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the End Abuse Program Coordinator, and as a member of MCC BC’s Program team, the End Abuse Program Associate will support the Program Coordinator in delivering MCC BC’s End Abuse Program, providing support, education, and referral services to survivors of abuse, as well as to pastors and congregations. This position is responsible for intake of women and facilitation of End Abuse support groups, raising public awareness and education around domestic violence, advocacy, referrals, collaborative program planning, and assisting with promoting program services. The Program Associate role will progressively grow in responsibility with the goal of taking over the Program Coordinator role in the future.

This role participates in devotional and prayer times at MCC BC and/or at local church and faith gatherings, being prepared to answer inquiries about MCC BC’s mission and values. This role contributes to a positive workplace culture based on Christian beliefs and values, while modelling nonviolent peacemaking in the workplace, in the community and the church through respectful interactions with others. This role requires adherence to MCC BC’s Code of Conduct, policies, practices, and procedures, including Workplace Health and Safety.

How much you work:

This is a part-time salaried position working a minimum of 30 hours per week, requiring flexibility to occasionally work outside of regular working hours.

When you work:

This position blends a regular office hours schedule (between 8:30 – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday) with occasional evening or weekend work to facilitate program needs, as necessary.

Where you work:

This position is located at MCC BC’s Abbotsford’s head office. On occasion, training and meetings may require travel to other locations within the Fraser Valley / other MCC BC locations within British Columbia.

Physical conditions & requirements: 

In addition to significant time spent in-person, this position may require up to 50% computer-monitor time. This position may require lifting up to 10 pounds.

Pace of work:

This position works independently with high day-to-day variation, including receiving and responding to unanticipated requests from program participants, management, and other colleagues; and providing leadership and support on deadline-driven activities. As such, moderate mental stress is expected.

Interactions with vulnerable populations: this position will have regular interactions with vulnerable populations.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; including ability to work collaboratively on a team
  • Good organizational skills related to record keeping and other duties
  • Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality, ethical considerations and professional boundaries, especially in supporting those who have experienced trauma
  • Ability to speak to biblical themes in church settings as they relate to issues of abuse
  • Strong commitment to the church and Christian service along with the ability to partner and work well with agencies addressing abuse issues within and outside the Christian faith

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & ACCREDITATIONS

  • University degree in Social Work, Women's Studies, or equivalent in education, training and experience
  • Knowledge of power dynamics, gender analysis, cross-cultural factors and related issues of oppression
  • Awareness of the impact that intimate partner violence has on individuals, families and the community
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills and experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting survivors of intimate partner violence
  • Program management experience is preferred, including budgeting and reporting

JOB REQUIREMENTS & LICENSING

  • Valid BC Driver’s License along with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • Satisfactory criminal record clearance (required upon hire)
  • Legally able to work in Canada

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROGRAM DELIVERY

  • Deliver and facilitate delivery of the three phases of the End Abuse program: scheduling, intakes with women, preparation for groups, working with facilitators and volunteers and overseeing the delivery and reporting of the program.
  • Coordinate the delivery of the Home Improvement: Men in Relationship group, arranging intake visits, supporting facilitators.
  • Support the Program Coordinator to develop an End Abuse pilot program in Prince George.
  • Attend community meetings as MCC representative; Purple Lights, VAWIR and/or Safe Relationships/Safe Children.
  • Facilitate/support the annual Understanding Abuse facilitators’ training and other MCC facilitated training events, including training for clergy on power dynamics and clergy sexual misconduct.
  • Develop and deliver relevant public awareness, educational or information sessions for church leaders, congregations, and community members, such as UFV.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator on decisions related to participants, various inquiries and other program needs as they arise.
  • Respond to clergy sexual misconduct inquiries; support outside organizations to create structures to respond to cases of sexual abuse.
  • Oversee program interns, the network advisory committee and the facilitators network.

ADMINISTRATION & REPORTING

  • Collect and keep appropriate records and participant data.
  • Arrange with Finance to pay facilitators’ honorariums.
  • Work with HR to keep facilitators’ contract information up to date.
  • Participate in monthly staff and Program staff meetings, when possible.
  • Maintain current referral and resource listings.

TEAM PARTICIPATION

  • Demonstrate MCC BC’s commitment to Christian mission, values, behaviours, and approaches as defined in the qualifications, in all formal and informal interactions with any stakeholder.
  • Support volunteers and colleague employees, proactively and sensitively providing direct and advice as required.
  • Demonstrate active participation in team meetings, including morning devotions and prayers with volunteers and staff, leading as required.

Salary Details

$50,000-$55,590 annually. Placement within the salary range will be based on qualifications.
