Position Description

Lakehead Baptist Church, a vibrant, Christ-centered, congregation-led church that meets in Thunder Bay Ontario is currently looking for a Lead Pastor. Our longstanding Pastor has recently retired. We are looking for a relational pastor who loves God and deeply cares for followers of Christ.

LBC is part of the Baptist General Conference, a movement of 106 Canadian Churches meeting across Canada. The mission of the Baptist General Conference is to build a network of churches that make disciples who live and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in their communities, Canada and the Nations.

Our Community

Thunder Bay, with a population of over 113,000 people, is located on the northwest shore of Lake Superior around the largest inland port in Canada. Across the bay itself is the beautiful and majestic Sleeping Giant. Thunder Bay is surrounded by Canada’s Boreal Forest, rivers, waterfalls and many other natural attractions, outdoor recreation and winter sport opportunities. Thunder Bay is a services hub of Northwestern Ontario, drawing visitors from many surrounding towns and is also the location of both Lakehead University and Confederation College.

Lakehead Baptist Church is located centrally within the city, near the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre as well as the Lakehead University Campus. The proximity to the university has opened doors to ministry with international students and young adults. We have an average Sunday attendance of 100 from all ages.

We value missions, locally and world-wide. We encourage evangelism efforts individually and collectively through various outreach initiatives and we encourage our congregation to engage in different ministries within the church and in the community.

Through small group Bible studies, youth group, adult and child Sunday School and Junior Church, we encourage congregants in discipleship and growth in their faith.

Our Sunday service blends traditional hymns and current worship songs, using a variety of instruments.

Requirements:

• A personal and enthusiastic relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord
• Calling from God into fulltime ministry
• A consistent spiritual walk outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9
• Accepts and agrees to the Baptist General Conference statement of faith
• Minimum bachelor’s degree, master’s level preferred, from an accredited Bible school or Seminary

General Job Description:

• Shepherd the congregation providing visionary and spiritual leadership
• Report to the Elders and Deacons board who represent the congregation
• Fulfill pulpit ministries – preaching and teaching on Sundays and other special worship services
• Oversee small groups and pastoral care for our church and community
• Develop and disciple lay ministry leaders
• Connect with other Bible believing pastors within the community

Salary range: $60,000+ CAD (commensurate with experience), Pension, benefits and pastoral development fund are also included,
