Position Description

We are seeking a Cantonese-speaking pastor whose primary role will be serving the Cantonese congregation. This includes preaching, teaching, training, and pastoral care to nurture the spiritual growth of the believers.

Church Background

Montreal Chinese Baptist Church (MCBC), founded in 1975, is located in downtown Montreal, Quebec, near Chinatown and east of McGill University. Since its establishment, MCBC has been a central hub connecting university students nearby. In the early 1990s, the church envisioned church planting, leading to the launch of a church planting initiative in 1995. Two years later, in Ville Saint-Laurent to the north, MCBC established its daughter church, Montreal West Chinese Baptist Church.

Currently, MCBC has three congregations (Cantonese, Mandarin, and English) with a total of approximately 150 members. The Cantonese congregation has an average Sunday worship attendance of about 80 people. Most members are Chinese immigrants and their descendants. The church is led by a deacon board, with each congregation having its own ministry committee overseeing Sunday school, worship, evangelism, discipleship, caring, and children's ministry.

Our mission is to follow Jesus closely, live out Christ’s life, and introduce the people of Montreal and surrounding areas to Jesus so they can become His disciples.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Shepherd the Cantonese congregation
• Oversee Sunday worship and deliver sermons
• Promote and participate in evangelistic outreach
• Teach and equip believers
• Provide counseling and visit church members
• Guide Cantonese ministry operations
• Attend regular deacon board meetings

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited seminary with a Bachelor’s or higher degree in theology
• At least two years of pastoral experience
• Fluent in Cantonese, with English at a functional level for work

Preferred Experience or Skills

• Understanding of Canada’s or Montreal’s multicultural environment
• Pastoral experience in Chinese churches in Canada
• Prior involvement in Baptist churches for worship or ministry
• Conversational Mandarin ability
• Counseling training or experience
