Position Description

Stanley Park Community Church in Kitchener, Ontario, is looking for an imaginative, fun, community-minded individual to work in a congregational setting for the summer as an assistant to the Children and Family Minister. This position requires someone who is able to work well with groups of children in both in high-energy activities and calm personal reflection; as well as working independently to create plans and administrate programs, and receive instruction and work collaboratively with others. This role is centred around the preparation and delivery of one week of summer Day Camp and weekly afternoon outreach activities and Sunday morning children’s programs. It will include assisting in weekly programs in-person with children.

This is a contract position at $17.20/hour ($15.60 for students) at 30 hours/week for 10 weeks, from June 2nd to August 10th, 2025. Work will primarily take place at the Church facility, with opportunities for working some hours from home, and potentially a few hours at off-site events. The successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Must be between the ages of 15-30 years (mandatory as funding is provided by Canada Summer Job Grant)
  • Must be able to legally work in Ontario
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Must be able to submit a clear Vulnerable Sector Screening with an Ontario police department (age dependent)
  • Must be able to complete and agree to Children and Youth Ministry agreement for Stanley Park Community Church, including submitting information for multiple personal references, to be checked by Church staff
  • Must complete Child and Family Ministry training process and work in accordance with the standards outlined in said training
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work under a supervisor to specific ends
  • Must be able to work well independently, but also work well cooperatively with others
  • Must have a good working knowledge of computer email and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Must enjoy working with children
  • Must adhere to strict confidentiality for personal information of participants and respect relevant photography prohibitions
  • Must have a great deal of creativity for program creation and implementation
  • Must have basic research skills using online and print resources and be able to create summary materials based on their work
  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to work with a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
  • Target start date: June 2nd, 2025

Valuable Assets:

  • Actively pursuing a career working with children
  • Familiar with Protestant Christian faith, Ancient history of the Levant, and the Bible
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Has previous experience working with or teaching elementary aged children
  • Able to produce written materials including instructions and lesson plans and outlines clear and effective enough to be used by other people at a later date
  • Has previous experience using Adobe Suite programming (e.g. Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Has previous experience in music and / or video production
  • Has previous experience in the dramatic arts
  • Has artistic and / or crafting skills
  • Ideally physically fit and able to lift at least 30 lbs

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in organization and delivering Day Camp program for elementary-aged children
  • Assist Child and Family Minister in weekly administrative and organizational tasks for programs and around the church building, including program registration, and email communication with participating families
  • Creation and preparation of curriculum and plans for Sunday morning programs for summer, and fall 2025, and winter 2026 programming
  • Lead Sunday morning programs for children (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
  • Assisting with community outreach at Thursday afternoon booths (4:30-7:30 PM) at the local market
  • Assisting with youth programs, including supervising youth on occasional off-site evening events
  • Assistance in site upkeep, organization, and maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Additional tasks as assigned
