Position Description

High River Baptist Church is a multigenerational congregation of over 200 people, situated in a growing community, 30 minutes south of Calgary, Alberta. High River is a unique, family oriented town of around 16,000 residents, sitting at the edge of the foothills of beautiful Kananaskis Country. With a local hospital, newly upgraded pool and recreation center (to be completed in 2026), small-town atmosphere, and close access to all kinds of shopping (15 minutes to Costco, Walmart, Home Depot, etc), High River is well suited for families of all ages.

The congregation and board of HRBC are seeking a man who has demonstrated the God-given heart of a shepherd through a love of Christ, His Word and His people. The desired associate pastor will assist the senior pastor in shepherding the ministry leaders of HRBC, with a particular focus on music and youth ministries.

At High River Baptist Church (HRBC), we envision a world reconciled to God, through Christ, reflecting His glory. We are a conservative church, convictionally baptistic in our theology and ecclesiology, and complementarian in our elder-led congregational polity.

  • Role To assist the Senior Pastor in shepherding the ministry leaders of HRBC.
  • Title: Associate Pastor
  • Reports Directly to: Senior Pastor
  • Type of Position: Full-time
  • Hours Per Week: 40 hours per week

Working Hours

  • Regular attendance of Sunday gathering is required.
  • One mandatory Sabbath day per week, consisting of a 24-hour period of rest from all vocational duties, plus up to one more day off per week

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep, strong, and trusting relationship with the Senior Pastor, working alongside and under his leadership, for the wellbeing of the church body, the strength of the staff team.
  • Maintain a focus on the acute pastoral needs and the building of community among members of HRBC.
  • Exhibit a passion for God's Word and a giftedness in teaching.
  • Assist the Senior Pastor in caring for and nurturing the flock entrusted to us.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Opportunity will be given to preach approximately six times per calendar year

Experience and Qualifications

  • A combination of theological education and/or ministry experience consistent with the role and responsibilities.
  • Pastoral experience is preferred.

Personal Qualifications

  • A follower of Jesus Christ, having recognized and repented of personal sin, demonstrated through believers’ baptism as a sign of death to self and life in Jesus.
  • Growing in Christlikeness, through a demonstrated commitment to the transformational work of the Holy Spirit in spiritual disciplines such as, prayer, praise, Scripture study and meditation, giving, solitude, unity, etc.
  • Life must clearly demonstrate a high level of spiritual maturity, fitting with the qualifications of an overseer given in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
  • A pastoral heart of care for others.
  • Display the heart of a servant that is willing to serve others enthusiastically, sacrificially, and joyfully.
  • Able to relate and work well with fellow members of Christ’s body, whether staff or volunteer, including members from other congregations.
  • Must agree with HRBC's vision, mission, and statement of faith, as well as the identity statement of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC).
  • In line with HRBC’s vision and mission must live in the broader neighborhood of the church, committed to reaching the people in that neighborhood as God gives opportunity.
  • Must have a clear sense of God's calling to ministry at HRBC.

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with education and experience following the CBWC guidelines.
