Position Description
- Job Type: Part-time (20–25 hours/week to start, with flexibility to increase)
- Start Date: Mid-August
- Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta (postal code: T8B 1J9), with regular visits to Buffalo Lake cabin (postal code: T0B 0H0)
- Compensation: $25 CAD –$30 CAD/hour depending on experience
- Requirements: Non-smoker, pass background check, valid driver’s license, has transportation
- Schedule: Flexible; availability for help on occasional weekends/holidays preferred
About the Family:
We are an active and entrepreneurial family of six with four young children (ages 8, 7, 5, and 3) and a friendly 13-year-old small dog. Our household is energetic and values kindness, flexibility, and initiative. We are deeply involved in our local church community, enjoy the outdoors, and travel frequently.
Our main home is in Sherwood Park, just outside Edmonton, and we also have a second property at Buffalo Lake where we sometimes host gatherings. We're looking for someone who can be a reliable, responsible, and calm presence behind the scenes, keeping things running smoothly while we’re home and preparing our spaces when we’re away.
What We’re Looking For:
Our ideal House Manager is:
- Friendly, competent, and service-oriented
- Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working independently
- Happy to support a busy household with kids and pets
- Willing to travel with the family occasionally and help with trip prep
- Comfortable managing multiple properties and vendors
- Flexible with scheduling - hours may decrease slightly when the family is traveling and increase when the family is home, especially during busier times of the year such as holidays, special events, or when hosting guests
- Someone who takes pride in their work, asks great questions, and sees what needs to be done before being asked
Key Responsibilities:
Household Management:
- Keep the household organized and running smoothly (closets, pantry, toys, mudroom, etc.)
- Coordinate with weekly cleaner and reset spaces between cleanings
- Manage family laundry, linens, steaming/ironing as needed
- Handle seasonal transitions (e.g., clothes, bedding, decor)
- Prepare for guest stays and family hosting
- Support home projects and renovations
- Gardening / light outdoor work
- Comfortable cleaning/maintaining small fish tank (or similar)
Property Oversight (Main Home + Cabin):
- Maintain regular oversight of Buffalo Lake cabin (1x/week or 3x/month) (e.g., carpet cleaning, deep cleaning, scheduling services, weeding/gardening etc)
- Support hosting and set-up for large family gatherings
- Supervise and coordinate vendors, contractors, and seasonal maintenance (e.g., gardening, power washing, etc.)
- Fill/stock fuel and water in boats/snowmobiles when needed
- Maintain plants
Inventory & Errands:
- Track and restock pantry, fridge, household and pet supplies
- Manage Amazon, Costco, butcher, local farm, and other store orders
- Run errands (returns, sourcing, etc.) using family car or farm truck
Meal Prep & Kitchen Support:
- Prepare 2–3 healthy family dinners/week
- Meal prep lunches
- Source high-quality meat and produce
- Keep kitchen tidy and organized, restock pantry essentials
Family Support & Travel Readiness:
- Light childcare/back-up support infrequently and only as needed
- Help with packing, scheduling kids’ activities, and trip logistics
- Willingness to travel occasionally to assist with kids during trips
Special Projects & Maintenance:
- Coordinate special cleaning projects (e.g., cleaning humidifiers, rugs, windows, etc.)
- Organize seasonal storage and maintenance (e.g., holiday items, recreational gear like boats/snowmobiles)
- Help resell or donate unused items
- Maintain basic upkeep systems across both homes
Other Details:
- Travel required to Buffalo Lake property (approx. 1.5 hours from Sherwood Park)
- Family car or farm truck available for work errands
- Occasional support requested on holidays (e.g., Canada Day, New Year’s)
- Growth opportunity to increase hours as family’s travel schedule slows
