Position Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE
We’re seeking a talented Music Director to bring creative arrangements, clear direction and a greater sense of community to our worship team. Working alongside our Worship Pastor and Production Director, you’ll be a part of crafting impactful, high-quality worship experiences on Sundays and working on creative projects like music videos (worship moments) and songwriting.
Qualifications
- Proficient in one or more of the following instruments: drums, keys, bass, electric guitar.
- Knowledge of the Nashville Number System.
- Competency in Ableton Live, use of multitracks, and advanced programming (controlling lyrics, lights, etc).
- Basic operating knowledge of DiGiCo S/Quantum consoles.
Core Responsibilities
- Serving as the leader of the band, fostering community among the musicians.
- Music directing on Sundays, 3-4 times monthly (developing other key leaders to music direct if the competency is there).
- Alongside the Worship Pastor, facilitate efficient, productive mid-week rehearsals.
- Ensuring PCO Services is prepped with the appropriate reference tracks and charts each week to ensure everyone is adequately prepared for rehearsals.
- Developing reference tracks to communicate custom arrangements.
- General stage preparation for weekly gathering (tidying cables, resetting instrument stations).
- Equipment maintenance and inventory (scheduling repairs, replacing damaged equipment, ensuring all equipment is marked and returned after rentals).
- Conducting auditions for prospective volunteers.
- Fostering community and camaraderie among the church’s musicians.
- Overseeing a discipleship model across the entire church that trains musicians in their craft and develops a heart of worship.
- Developing and leading a community-facing music initiative.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Facilitating workshops or training as part of the discipleship and training model.
- Being available for one-on-one coaching with band volunteers.
- Leading the production of original songs (if skills are applicable).
- Assisting with the development of Next Generation musicians.
What Success Looks Like
- High-quality Sunday worship, ensuring that arrangements are contextual, creative and replicable across a diverse team.
- Musicians of every age and stage are growing in their craft and being challenged to lead, expand their skills, or take on more responsibilities.
- Expanding use of digital technology in worship (automation of lyrics, lighting cues, etc).
Expectations & Compensation
- Hours: 40 per week.
- Salary: Commensurate with experience.
- Benefits: GKM’s benefits package.
- Reports to: Associate Pastor, Ministries
- Targeted Start: January 2025
