Position Description

Job Title: Cantonese Ministry Pastor
Church: Richmond Chinese MB Church
Location: 10200 No. 5 Road, Richmond, BC
Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

Provide spiritual leadership, preaching, pastoral care, and administrative oversight for the Cantonese-speaking congregation. The Cantonese Ministry Pastor will lead the church in alignment with its mission, vision, and theological convictions, while also bridging generational and cultural gaps within the Chinese community.

Qualifications

Spiritual & Theological

  • A mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, characterized by humility, integrity, and a passion for serving others
  • Agreement with the church’s statement of faith and mission
  • A Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent theological education from an accredited seminary (preferred)
  • Ordained or ordainable in a recognized evangelical denomination or fellowship

Language & Communication

  • Fluency in Cantonese (spoken and written) required
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin (for communication with church leaders, staff, and multi-congregation, and community)

Pastoral & Ministry Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of pastoral experience, preferably with local Cantonese-speaking congregations
  • Experience in preaching, teaching, discipling, and counselling within a church context
  • Experience in working with multi-language ministry teams
  • Strong leadership skills in working with lay leaders and ministry teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative setting, collaborating with other pastors, staff, deacons, and ministry leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to shepherd and care for a multigenerational Cantonese congregation

Relational & Cultural

  • Deep understanding of Chinese culture and issues relevant to Chinese immigrants and their families
  • Ability to navigate intergenerational and intercultural ministry dynamics (e.g., bridging relationships with English and Mandarin congregations)

Responsibilities

  • Preach regularly in Cantonese worship services
  • Provide pastoral care (visitation, counselling, crisis support)
  • Lead Sunday school, Bible studies, discipleship groups, and prayer meetings
  • Mentor and equip lay leaders for ministry
  • Plan and organize outreach and evangelism efforts among Cantonese-speaking communities
  • Work closely with the pastoral team in church-wide vision and planning
  • Participate in staff meetings, inter-congregational collaboration, and denominational activities
