Position Description
EMSL Canada is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos) in Mississauga, ON No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy), PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and/or TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures
- Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material
- Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
- Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS system
- Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
- Administrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related science is required
- Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training preferred
- Some Laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting
- 0 to 1 years’ experience performing asbestos PLM/TEM/PCM analysis
- Ability to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability and a positive attitude
- Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance
- Ability to travel for training to another EMSL location either to U.S. and/or Canada
Available Shift:
Position is full-time, Tuesday to Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Training Shift to start will be Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

EMSL Canada offers supplemental benefits and paid time off. The pay range for this position is $21.00 to $22.05 per hour.
