Position Description
This position is defined as part time / contract. Must be available for Sunday worship services, Friday night worship, rehearsal night with the Choir and the worship team, and other special services, including (but not limited to) seasons of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.
The work is done cooperatively, especially with the existing music team and band, choir leader and appointed staff to ensure excellence in quality of presentation. As a part of the musical leadership team, you will work with and report to Senior leadership who will define expectations for themed services / illustrative sermons.
Salary/rate negotiable, consistent with candidate’s education, experience, and skill level.
Opportunity for an organist role is also available (Hammond B3).
Qualifications:
- A disciple of Jesus Christ, committed to growing in faith through practicing the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Scripture study, worship participation, and service.
- Experience in church worship is preferred with both keyboard and other music and hymnody (understanding and familiarity with blended worship expected)
- Flexibility to play in blended style worship services (incorporating both traditional and contemporary music)
- Knowledge of the instrument and high degree of competency and proficient keyboard ability. Ability to sight-read and improvise / experience with flow of worship is desired.
- Prepare music set lists in collaboration with music team members / worship team / choir leaders in a timely schedule for Sundays & Fridays
- Plan, select, and prepare preludes, postludes and offertories, according to the needs of the Church services.
- Serve as accompanist for other choirs, ensembles, and soloists, when needed (ie. Children’s choir & Youth worship)
- Play for weddings and funerals, as requested (and upon availability). The events take place on selected Saturdays with ample notification.
- Maintain an accurate account of instrument needs and maintenance, and notify appointed staff.
- Ability to direct and enhance music arrangements with groups and individuals for song specials
- Knowledge of basic music theory, read chord charts, and ability to perform simple transpositions or re-harmonizations
- Willingness to rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music
- Sensitivity and the ability to interact with a variety of people
- Ability to take direction and work as a team member
- Ability to communicate well and in a friendly manner with the Leadership, staff and music team members fostering unity
- Desire to maintain a constant program of self-improvement and elevate worship experience using every available means for improvement
- Administrate schedules, tracking attendance ongoing
- Incorporating creativity in music arrangements that may include developing stems for song specials
- Technical Skillset:
- Knowledge / experience with audio mixing, setup and breakdowns
- Music recording and producing is a plus
- An understanding of television broadcast mixing and production is a preferred but not required.
Required Schedule of Days/Times:
- Sundays 9am - 2pm
- Wednesdays 6pm - 10pm
- Fridays 7pm - 10pm
- Saturdays - Approx. 5 per year for 2 hours
For planned absences (preferably as soon as known) to allow for scheduling of a substitute.
