Position Description

Intermediate Bookkeeper (Remote in Ontario) -- Amplify Mission is hiring a full-time, remote, Intermediate Bookkeeper who enjoys bringing efficiency to processes and is passionate about helping organizations thrive.

This is a full-time, non-unionized vacancy based in Ontario.

About the Intermediate Bookkeeper

Working within a team, our Intermediate Bookkeepers manage client financial processing and record-keeping while supporting the full client care cycle from onboarding through ongoing service delivery, in line with our 3 Uniques: Simple, Relational, Excellence.

Specifically, in this role you’d be responsible for:

Bookkeeping & Payroll

  • Accurately process and record clients’ day-to-day financial transactions, including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments.
  • Record revenue and expense transactions in general ledger and supporting accounts using tools like Dext, Sage, and QuickBooks.
  • Process bills and payments, maintaining up-to-date accounts payable files.
  • Process payroll according to the client’s schedule using payroll software.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries for each payroll, ensuring departmental staff allocations are followed consistently.
  • Process transactions using appropriate methodology (i.e. classes in QuickBooks).
  • Maintain accurate and compliant records, files and processes to ensure smooth client operations.
  • Perform bank reconciliations, prepare financial statements and cash flows, and analyze variances to budget.
  • Onboard new clients, learning their current systems, simplifying the transition of accounts and establishing clear, consistent processes.
  • Prepare electronic filings and reports.

Client Experience

  • Participate in the client discovery process to understand bookkeeping and financial management needs.
  • Support onboarding by setting up client accounts, explaining processes and integrating financial activities into our systems.
  • Maintain regular communication with assigned clients, providing updates, answering questions and offering proactive support.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance value for clients.
  • Appropriately escalate issues and keep the Team Lead informed of client updates requiring attention.

Mandatory

  • Minimum of five years of professional experience, including three or more years in bookkeeping, payroll, or accounts payable.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients and competing priorities, maintaining high accuracy and organization.
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Sage, Dext, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams) and Monday.com
  • A strong desire to continuously learn and improve, whether through adopting new technologies or refining workflows.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management, with a commitment to delivering quality work on time.
  • A stewardship mindset, treating client and organizational resources responsibly and respectfully.
  • A strong customer service mindset, with the ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Alignment with Amplify Mission’s values and a genuine passion for serving organizations that make a difference.
  • Comfort working in a remote-first environment, with the ability to attend occasional in-person meetings in the Durham Region, Ontario.

Preferred

  • Certification in bookkeeping, financial management, payroll, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting nonprofits or charitable organizations.
  • Understanding of Canadian nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Familiarity with government filings and regulations (e.g., T3010, HST, payroll, and other compliance filings).
  • Progress toward or completion of a CPA designation.
