Position Description
Overview of the Organization:
Church on the Rock (COTR) is a vibrant, young at heart church passionate about reaching and transforming lives on the Hamilton Mountain. Our church is evangelical, Bible-based, pursuing the leading of the Spirit.
Primary Purpose:
The camp director is responsible for leading Camp Wild Rock’s summer day camp program and ensuring a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for children in Grades 1–5. This includes leading the camp staff team, managing daily operations, assisting with registration and reporting, as well as ongoing communication with campers, parents, staff, and volunteers.

- Type: The role is a full-time, temporary position of 35 hours per week on average but may vary from week to week, as needed. It is expected that you will manage the variability of this average work week. This contract is for a period of 12 weeks from May 18–Aug 7, 2026.
- Location: Church on the Rock, 1249 Upper James St, Mount Hope, ON.
- Reports to: Youth Pastor
Main Accountabilities:
- Program Leadership & Execution
- Oversee all daily camp operations to ensure smooth, timely, and safe program delivery.
- Manage the camp schedule, coordinating with program staff to facilitate planned activities.
- Staff & Volunteer Leadership
- Lead, support, and mentor the lead staff team and volunteers.
- Facilitate pre-camp training on safety, inclusion, child supervision, emergency procedures, and camp values.
- Provide ongoing coaching, supervision, and regular team debriefs to ensure strong communication and collaboration.
- Camper & Family Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians; communicate clearly and professionally.
- Build supportive relationships with campers to foster belonging, encourage participation, and ensure positive experiences.
- Support behaviour management and conflict resolution in alignment with camp policies and youth development best practices.
- Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure all activities follow health, safety, accessibility, and child protection guidelines.
- Respond promptly to incidents, maintain accurate documentation, and implement appropriate follow-up measures.
- Administration & Operations
- Oversee camper registration, attendance records, medical information, and incident reporting.
- Manage program resources, maintain inventory, and ensure budget adherence.
- Coordinate with church staff regarding facility use, storage, supplies, and communications.
- Prepare an end-of-camp evaluation report summarizing achievements, challenges, and recommendations for future seasons.
- Community Engagement & Inclusion
- Promote a welcoming, inclusive environment that supports youth from diverse backgrounds, including racialized youth, Indigenous youth, and youth with disabilities.
- Collaborate with local community organizations to enhance camp programming, awareness, and accessibility.
Experience:
- Experience working in a camp environment and/or a similar setting.
- Proven leadership experience, particularly in managing teams in educational, recreational, or ministry contexts.
- Experience in program planning and implementation, with an emphasis on creating a positive experience for participants and leaders alike.
- Interpersonal Skills and Personal Attributes:
- Excellent people skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of all ages.
- Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of staff, volunteers, and camp participants.
- A proactive self-starter with strong problem-solving skills.
- Organized and able to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a dynamic camp setting.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively handle challenging situations.
