Position Description
Overview of the Organization:
Church on the Rock (COTR) is a vibrant church passionate about reaching and transforming lives on the Hamilton Mountain. Our church is evangelical, Bible-based, and pursuing the leading of the Spirit.
Primary Purpose:
The Program Director leads the design and delivery of engaging, age-appropriate programming for Camp Wild Rock. This role supports a safe, creative, inclusive, and engaging camp environment for children in Grades 1–5 while providing leadership development opportunities for youth staff and volunteers.

- Type: The role is a full-time, temporary position of 35 hours per week on average but may vary from week to week, as needed. It is expected that you will manage the variability of this average work week. This contract is for a period of 12 weeks from May 18–Aug 7, 2026.
- Location: Church on the Rock, 1249 Upper James St, Mount Hope, ON.
- Reports to: Camp Director
Main Accountabilities:
- Program Design & Preparation
- Develop fun, engaging, and age-appropriate programming, themes, lessons, and activities for daily camp sessions.
- Create and organize large-group activities such as games, music, skits, challenges, and themed events.
- Prepare and organize all program materials, ensuring supplies are ready and available for scheduled activities.
- Adapt activities to meet diverse camper needs, including accommodations for youth with disabilities or additional support needs.
- Integrate nature-based and environmentally conscious activities to promote outdoor engagement and environmental awareness.
- Program Delivery
- Lead the daily execution of camp programming, ensuring smooth transitions, clear communication, and strong camper engagement.
- Actively participate in activities, modeling enthusiasm, leadership, and teamwork.
- Train and support program staff, volunteers, and LIT participants in their roles during programming blocks.
- Provide real-time adjustments to programming based on camper needs, weather conditions, or safety considerations.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Work closely with the Camp Director, Volunteer Director, Program Assistant, and LIT team to ensure cohesive program delivery.
- Facilitate daily check-ins and debrief sessions to celebrate wins, identify challenges, and strengthen team communication.
- Mentor youth staff and volunteers, promoting leadership, creativity, responsibility, and problem-solving.
- Camper Care & Engagement
- Build positive, supportive relationships with campers to foster belonging and encourage participation.
- Assist with behaviour support, conflict resolution, and group management using camp policies and relational approaches.
- Help ensure that all campers experience a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
- Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure all programming aligns with health and safety procedures, emergency response plans, and child protection guidelines.
- Monitor activity areas to ensure safe and accessible spaces for all campers.
- Support incident documentation and follow-up.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records related to programming, resources, and daily activity evaluations.
- Assist with tracking program supply needs, budgets, and inventory.
- Contribute to end-of-camp program evaluation and recommendations for future improvement.
Experience:
- Experience planning and leading recreational programming for children.
- Experience working in a camp environment and/or a similar setting is an asset.
- Proven ability to work effectively within a team-based vocational, educational, or ministry environment.
Interpersonal Skills and Personal Attributes:
- Strong communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with both children and adults.
- Ability to collaborate and lead within a team setting, working with all levels of staff and volunteers.
- Highly organized, able to manage multiple activities and priorities, ensuring smooth operation of programming.
- Demonstrated creativity in developing engaging activities for children, with a focus on safety and fun.
