Position Description

New Horizons Community Church (NHCC) is a Christ-centred congregation located in Sarnia, Ontario, and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church in Canada. We are currently in a healthy and hopeful season of ministry, with average Sunday attendance of 125–135 people and a growing youth ministry of approximately 20 students. Position Overview

New Horizons Community Church is prayerfully seeking a full-time Assistant Pastor, with a primary focus on Youth and Young Adults. This role is designed to be collaborative and flexible, shaped around the individual’s gifts, calling, and pastoral strengths rather than a rigid job description.

The Assistant Pastor will work closely with the Lead Pastor to invest in students and young adults, provide pastoral care to individuals and families, and help cultivate a church culture where faith is formed through authentic relationships, trust, and consistent presence.

Key Responsibilities

While specific responsibilities will be shaped by the candidate’s gifting, the role will generally include:

  • Providing leadership, discipleship, and pastoral care for youth and young adults
  • Supporting and equipping volunteer leaders within next-generation ministries
  • Participating in pastoral care, preaching, and worship life of the church, as appropriate
  • Collaborating with the Lead Pastor and ministry teams in shaping the spiritual life of the congregation
  • Contributing to a healthy, relational, and mission-focused church culture

Qualifications & Expectations

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A growing, vibrant faith in Jesus Christ and a clear sense of pastoral calling
  • A genuine love for youth and young adults and a heart for the local church
  • Applicable Education or Ministry Experience
  • Strong relational and collaborative skills, with a team-oriented posture
  • Creativity, humility, dependability, and a willingness to learn and grow
  • Alignment with Free Methodist (Wesleyan) theology, values, and polity
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
