Position Description

Vaughan Community Church is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and spiritually mature followers of Jesus Christ to join our Christian Education Ministry (CEM) team as a Half-Time Pastor of Elementary Ministry, serving children in Grades 1 through 6.

This position provides spiritual leadership and pastoral oversight for approximately 110 children drawn from both our Korean-speaking and English-speaking congregations. The successful candidate will communicate the Word of God in engaging and age-appropriate ways, cultivate a safe and nurturing environment, and encourage children to grow in their love for Jesus Christ and in Christian character and faith.

The Pastor of Elementary Ministry works collaboratively with the CEM Ministry Team and consults regularly with the Christian Education Minister regarding ministry vision, planning, implementation, and ongoing development of the Elementary Ministry.

Vaughan Community Church has faithfully served the Greater Toronto Area with the gospel of Jesus Christ for over fifty-eight years and is a member of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and lead the 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM Sunday Children’s Worship services, including teaching and preaching.
  • Plan and lead Friday Night JAM Kids programming.
  • Collaborate with other CEM staff to organize, plan, and execute major ministry programs, including Summer Bible Camp (VBS), Sports Camp, and Discipleship Camp.
  • Plan and coordinate special annual events, including the March Retreat, Good Friday Service, Easter programs, Children’s Day, Graduation, and Hallelujah Night.
  • Provide pastoral care for children and maintain strong, consistent communication with parents and families.
  • Lead, support, and equip teachers and volunteers within a collaborative team ministry environment through regular meetings, training, and clear communication.
  • In consultation with the CEM Minister, select appropriate curriculum and ensure effective implementation and teacher training.
  • Work collaboratively with the CEM Minister to develop, implement, and oversee the Christian Education Ministry’s vision, budget, ministry calendar, and annual strategic plan.
  • Partner with other CEM pastoral staff to strengthen ministry alignment, effectiveness, and spiritual growth across departments.
  • Provide supplementary ministry support for KM programming as needed (e.g., Alpha Program).
  • Attend and actively participate in all pastoral staff meetings and attend other staff functions and meetings as required.
  • Keeps office hours one day during the week

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrates a genuine passion for guiding children to love Jesus Christ, grow as devoted disciples, and mature in wisdom and character.
  • Committed to CEM’s vision of intergenerational spiritual formation and active integration within the life and mission of the broader church community.
  • Exhibits strong organizational, leadership, and administrative skills.
  • Effectively utilizes creative and innovative teaching methodologies to make God’s Word engaging, relevant, and accessible to children.
  • Ability to effectively use technology and digital media to support engaging children’s worship, teaching and administrative responsibilities.
  • Works collaboratively and productively in a team-based ministry environment to accomplish shared ministry goals.
  • Holds a degree from an accredited theological seminary, or is currently in the process of completing such a degree.
  • Must complete a Police Vulnerable Sector Check and adhere to the Leading with Care policy for our denomination.
  • Possesses a minimum of two to three years of ministry experience in children’s ministry.
