Position Description

Vaughan Community Church is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and spiritually mature followers of Jesus Christ to join our Christian Education Ministry (CEM) team as a Part-Time Pastor of Kindergarten Ministry, serving children in Junior and Senior Kindergarten.

This position provides spiritual leadership and pastoral oversight for approximately 40 children drawn from both our Korean-speaking and English-speaking congregations. The successful candidate will communicate the Word of God in engaging, play-based, and age-appropriate ways, cultivate a safe and nurturing environment, and encourage young children to grow in their love for Jesus and develop a strong spiritual foundation that will guide their faith for a lifetime.

The Pastor of Kindergaten Ministry works collaboratively with the CEM Ministry Team and consults regularly with the Christian Education Minister regarding ministry vision, planning, implementation, and ongoing development of the Kindergarten ministry.

Vaughan Community Church has faithfully served the Greater Toronto Area with the gospel of Jesus Christ for over fifty-eight years and is a member of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee and lead the 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM Sunday Kindergarten worship services, including teaching and preaching.
• Collaborate with other CEM staff to organize, plan, and execute major ministry programs, including Summer Bible Camp (VBS)
• Plan and coordinate special annual events, including the, Easter program, Children’s Day, Graduation and Hallelujah Night.
• Provide pastoral care for children and maintain strong, consistent communication with parents and families.
• Provide guidance, encouragement, and resources to teachers and volunteers within a collaborative ministry team, through ongoing meetings, training sessions, and effective communication.
• Work in partnership with the ARK staff (Toddler and Preschool) on curriculum design, programming, and scope and sequence to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Early Childhood Ministry.
• Partner with other CEM pastoral staff to strengthen ministry alignment, effectiveness, and spiritual growth across departments.
• Provide supplementary ministry support for KM programming as needed (e.g., Alpha Program).
• Attend and actively participate in all pastoral staff meetings and attend other staff functions and meetings as required.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

• Demonstrates a genuine passion for guiding young children to love Jesus Christ and to build a life-long faith and Christ-like character.
• Is familiar with the developmental needs and stages of young children and can apply age-appropriate teaching methodologies effectively
• Committed to CEM’s vision of intergenerational spiritual formation and active integration within the life and mission of the broader church community.
• Exhibits strong organizational, leadership, and administrative skills.
• Uses innovative and child-centered teaching approaches to make Scripture engaging and relevant for young learners.
• Works collaboratively and productively in a team-based ministry environment to accomplish shared ministry goals.
• Holds a degree from an accredited theological seminary or is currently in the process of completing such a degree or holds an ECE degree or a Teacher’s Degree (B.Ed).
• Must complete a Police Vulnerable Sector Check and adhere to the Leading with Care policy for our denomination.
• Possesses a minimum of two to three years of ministry experience in children’s ministry.
