The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Director, Finance who will provide strategic financial leadership, planning and guidance on all finance-related functions, collaborate with senior leadership, department managers, and stakeholder partners, contribute to strategic financial planning and serve as a trusted advisor on financial matters that impact the advancement of the mission.
Initially reporting to the President and CEO, and in partnership with the interim CFO, this role will include oversight of the following areas:
- Financial Reporting and Recording Systems Review – ensure that Accounting and Donor databases are accurately maintained, include effective internal controls and provide reliable financial information; own accountability for month-end close performance across Finance; review variance analyses and financial reporting commentary; deliver consolidated management reports to Senior Leadership Team and Finance & Audit Committee
- Year-End Auditing and submitting annual reports to regulatory bodies – leading annual audit planning and submitting annual reports / returns to CRA
- Annual Budgeting and Forecasting – in addition to ownership of the annual budgeting and forecasting process, developing multi-year financial scenarios and forecasting standards, monitoring performance against plan and drive corrective actions
- Finance Team Leadership – setting clear objectives and KPIs aligned to YSM’s strategy, overseeing the Finance Team
Responsibilities:
- Oversee updates to the databases to accurately reflect changes in policies, structure and regulations, modify existing internal controls or add new ones if necessary
- Ensure that all revenue and expenses are correctly classified by reviewing the monthly financial reports, identifying inaccuracies and ensuring the appropriate corrections are made
- Prepare the reports for the Finance and Audit Committee and board meetings, attend the meetings as required and provide financial updates.
- Oversee the development of financial reports and documents, including monthly finance variance reports for budget holders, multi-year financial scenarios/plans, financial statements, and special budget reports
- Provide direction to the Finance team, including the Accountant and accounting staff, during the audit
- Respond to audit queries and provide explanations for significant variation from the previous year
- Compile the annual Budget and outlook for the current year
- Prepare adjusted forecast as and when required
Qualifications:
- CPA-CA, CGA or equivalent designation
- University degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Management
- 5-7 years’ solid experience in a senior finance leadership role including in the non-profit charitable sector
- Full knowledge of the P&L and financial planning and analysis skill set including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and fund accounting
- Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, GAAP and cash management, business and tax planning
- Strong leader able to work at both the strategic and operational levels
- Solid analytical and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to work effectively with people, handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently, and resolve issues while maintaining high standards and attention to detail
- Demonstrated personal commitment to YSM's principles of faith, mission and values.
Compensation: YSM offers market competitive rates and will pay a starting salary of $110,000 for this role, combined with a comprehensive suite of benefits and perks.
