Employment Position: Summer Mission Crew Care Team Member
The position is required to work in a team environment with other Summer Mission Crew Care Team Members.
A Staff Support team is available to provide guidance and disciplinary support, upon request.
Reports to: Executive Director & General Director

Primary Role(s):
To provide leadership to JOY’s Summer Mission Crew and implement JOY’s Staff Care Program, a holistic program that supports the personal, spiritual & social wellbeing & development of the Summer Mission Crew members.
To provide leadership to JOY’s Junior & Senior Youth guest programming during family ministry weeks, with an intentional focus to engage youth through programming and relationship building.
Major role responsibilities, be they supervision/planning or everyday duties to be fulfilled:
Including but not limited to the following responsibilities:
Summer Mission Crew Care Team:
- Live in dorm-style accommodations with the Summer Mission Crew.
- Responsible for enforcing JOY’s values and expectations of Summer Mission Crew Members, curfew, and supporting daily routines
- Providing leadership to JOY’s Staff Care program, a holistic program that supports the personal, spiritual & social well-being & development of the Summer Mission Crew members.
- Following JOY’s scripture-based theme to develop, implement and/or organize daily devotionals, weekly staff chapels, small groups, and 1:1 mentorship.
- Organize and implement events, recreational activities, weekly church visits, and off-site outings for the Summer Mission Crew in coordination with the General Director.
- Working alongside the SMC members in their departments as needed or requested
- Attend weekly staff meetings with JOY’s Senior Staff team as a representative of the Summer Mission Crew.
- Engage in weekly 1:1 mentorship meetings with JOY’s Spiritual Director or General Director.
- Provide leadership or assist other JOY Senior Staff during unexpected events or challenges (for example, support homesick staff, provide proper care during illness, drive staff to the hospital, escalate disciplinary action to the Executive Director)
- Engaging other local camps/ministries to organize service projects, ministry opportunities and social gatherings
- Youth Program Leader - During Family Ministry Weeks: Provide leadership to the Junior & Senior Youth chapel times by providing devotions and thought-provoking discussions to guide participants in the teen ministry (ages 12-17) into a deeper understanding of the Bible and their relationship with God.
- Intentionally engage in relationships and conversations with guests in the Junior & Senior Youth Ministry age group.
- Design & implement intentional program elements for Junior & Senior Youth-age guests, providing structure and engagement through recreational or off-site activities
Other Duties:
- Provide support to the Recreational Programming team with the guest program, as requested.
- Engaging the weekly Camp Directors, Family Camp hosts and Family Camp speakers to engage in the SMC or Youth Programs (for example, lead devotions, share prayer requests, support program)
- Provide support to the Children’s Ministry Team with childcare as requested.
- Facilitate aspects of staff training as requested by the Executive and General Director.
- Weekly leading changeover teams to support the Housekeeping Team
Working Conditions:
Provision of staff accommodation and meals for the duration of the work term stated in the official job offer.
