Position Description

Summer Programs Intern (Children & Community) 2026

Overview

This position provides focused, hands-on ministry experience within a time-limited summer placement. The Summer Programs Intern supports the church’s children and family ministries through clearly defined responsibilities, contributing to continuity of programming while growing in skills, confidence, and faith.

To help children in our community develop a friendship with Jesus, with the Bible, with the church, and with each other.

Time Commitment and Compensation

This position is made possible through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Final hours are dependent on grant approval and will be determined in consultation with immediate supervisor.

Estimated duration: approximately 8–9 weeks (mid-June to mid-August)
Estimated total hours: 280–300
Wage: $18.60 per hour

Primary Responsibilities

The Summer Programs Intern works in partnership with church staff and volunteers to support core summer ministries. Responsibilities are scaled to the length of the placement and focus on execution and continuity rather than long-term program development.

Five Fun Days Camp (July 27–31)

  • Assist in coordinating and implementing the daily schedule, including group activities and chapel times
  • Plan and help oversee rotation activities
  • Support promotion of the camp (flyers, social media, emails, etc.)
  • Assist with participant registration
  • Recruit, equip, and support volunteers in collaboration with supervising staff
  • Five Fun Days is a half-day program where each day features a unique, action-packed theme (e.g., Makers Day, Messy Day, Farm Day).

Sunday School

  • Plan and lead the weekly Sunday School program for children in SK–Grade 5
  • Program elements may include music, Bible lessons, story time, object lessons, and interactive activities

Additional Ministry Experience

  • Based on the intern’s interests and skills, plan and lead at least one additional activity or event that aligns with the mission and goals of the position, within the scope and timeframe of the summer term
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with church staff and under the guidance of an immediate supervisor
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings
  • Attend weekly Sunday services during the term of employment
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers and parents/guardians
  • Participate in volunteer training sessions and daily team check-ins during camp
  • Log and report hours and assist with tracking program-related expenses as directed

  • Previous experience working with children in a volunteer or employment setting
  • An interest in growing personally and spiritually
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteer teams
  • Organizational and time-management skills
  • Creativity and flexibility
  • A self-motivated approach with the ability to follow guidance and direction
