Position Purpose Summary:
The role is focused on helping individuals find solutions to problems of social adjustment that are difficult for individuals to navigate on their own, with the goal of ending the cycle of crisis and poverty.
Accountabilities:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
Case Management:
- Utilize best practices in professional collaboration to work with partners across Canada but not limited to law enforcement, children’s aid, Indigenous organizations, primary and emergent healthcare.
- Develop case plans, utilize case management tools, report case notes, and develop strategy for clients within caseload, providing case management, case coordination, and various referrals.
- Identify & complete paperwork for various applications.
- Provide home visits and in-home training for various program participants when required by programs.
- Support relevant volunteers and co-workers in implementing programming across multiple program sites and provide input to program design.
- Provide consultation support to community agencies and refer to different training opportunities.
- Assess client suitability to internal and external programs and agencies as required.
- Ascertain and provide participants with referral services within the community and/or social services resources.
- Ensure client supervision and safety in designated programs and comply with relevant program Policies and Procedures.
General Program Support:
- Take part in all-hands-on-deck events such as Back-to-School drive, food bank, Christmas assistance, etc.
- Work Sunday mornings to assist with church services. (Can be negotiated if you already attend a different gathering).
- Lead workshops, courses, and group offerings and related to Pathway of Hope caseworking.
- Contribute and provide recommendations on the development of new and existing programs for clients, assist with statistics collection, and measure tangible outcomes.
- Utilize knowledge of issues pertaining to the scope of program(s) to contribute to the development of program(s) materials and partnerships.
- Contribute to the development of administrative frameworks and best practices for program delivery, including new and innovative approaches to programming and community involvement, creative approaches to crisis intervention and cross industry collaboration.
- Ensure that program procedures are maintained in own work and when providing recommendations to others, support the Program Manager in developing relevant policies and present to the Leadership team, contribute to drafting of various learning guides and facilitator materials, where required.
- Provide coordination and administrative assistance in the delivery of designated programs, follow outcomes matrixes to attain reportable/significant outcomes, complete monthly reports, and end of project reports.
- Seek community donations and in-kind support for minor programming items, develop relationships with external stakeholders, participate in community-based events & represent organization within the scope of their duties as per the Leadership request.
- Assist Management team in establishing meaningful connections with community partners, support and participate in stakeholder evaluations and focus groups, attend offsite meetings with stakeholders as required including sitting as active members on community committees.
- Maintain appropriate records and statistics, ensures that all required documentation is accurate and complete.
Professional Development
- Participate in training, meetings, case management development, administrative system orientations, as required.
- Participate in test-run programming and utilize provided learning lab techniques to contribute to refining of the project concepts, materials, and delivery.
- Responsible to model positive behaviours & boundaries to clients and contribute to the mission and goals of The Salvation Army.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Financial and Material Management:
- Minor material responsibilities (access to confidential information)
- Responsible for the safekeeping of materials and equipment for own use.
- Little-to-no financial responsibilities.
Working Conditions:
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a community services environment, primarily indoors and in agreeable conditions but including a variety of different workspaces including:
- Food bank warehouse.
- Food bank.
- Church building.
- Outdoors.
- Home visits.
- Others as necessary.
- This position requires a moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping and those served by the program usually relate information that is highly disturbing in nature and will require intentional debrief and consultation.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

- Irritated or frustrated clients
- Work schedule affecting lifestyle
- Exposure to conversations around drugs and alcohol
- The incumbent may have little to no travel required.
- Shift work may be required.

- Experience moderate physical exertion: will be required to lift up to 50 pounds with no assistance from others.
Job Requirements:
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
- Work in compliance with Health and Safety Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered.
Education, Qualifications, and Certifications:
Education:
Completion of a formal post-secondary/college diploma program of 2 academic years in Social Services or in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge and Willingness:
- Two years of prior related experience, including experience in a social service setting, supervision experience, experience working with marginalized individuals, and a social services background.
- Valid certification in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, and Non-violent crisis intervention training would be valued assets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, and PowerPoint); the Internet and Email. Proficiency in Canva an asset.
- Proficient in administration and files management procedures
- Maintain and promote a positive image of The Salvation Army by providing a high caliber of services and dealing with others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- The incumbent will have good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Rate: $19.67 - $24.59
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $19.67 to $24.59 with a maximum of $29.51.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
