RHCBC, THE CHURCH
Richmond Hill (Chinese) Baptist Church (RHCBC) is a trilingual (English, Cantonese and Mandarin) multigenerational church with about 350 members. The English-speaking congregation (ESC) has a regular worship attendance of about 110 people of diverse age groups. We strive to grow together as a Christ-centered, cross-generational church that builds strong families, raises the next generation to become Christ’s disciples, and brings His hope and love to our community.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Pastor (English) serves as the primary spiritual leader and overseer of the English-speaking congregation. The role’s primary responsibilities include biblical preaching and teaching, pastoral care, and spiritual leadership. The Lead Pastor is called and gifted for church ministry and has a deep passion for guiding a multi-generational congregation toward the vision and goals as highlighted above.
The Lead Pastor (English) works collaboratively with the English Ministry pastoral staff, deacons, and lay leaders, embracing a team-based approach to shepherd, equip, and support the English-speaking congregation. He demonstrates a strong understanding of RHCBC’s purpose, values, and strategic direction, and actively aligns key leadership teams with the church’s mission.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership in implementing the church’s overall vision, overseeing the planning, design, and execution of teaching and weekend worship services for the English-speaking congregation, and developing ministry goals and objectives aligned with the church’s strategic plan.
- Shepherd and provide pastoral care for an English-speaking congregation of 110+ worshippers, nurturing spiritual growth, community, and discipleship.
- Engage in regular preaching and teaching of the Word of God with sound doctrine, clarity of Scripture and relevancy to all of life.
- Supervise and guide various ministerial teams (including those for the Children, Youth and Family Ministries) in planning, coordinating and implementing programs related to their areas of responsibility.
- Collaborate closely with the church’s Pastoral Team and lay leaders to advance the church’s ministry and foster oneness within the congregation.
- Recruit, teach, train, spiritually support and effectively supervise leaders and volunteers for the various ministries.
QUALIFICATIONS
Capabilities And Characteristics
- Mature faith in Jesus Christ, godly character, a strong commitment and calling to serve the local church (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5:1-4).
- A demonstrated commitment to cross-generational ministry, with the ability to lead and unite a multi-generational congregation, foster faith formation across all life stages, and intentionally cultivate a church culture where faith is shared, modeled, and passed on from one generation to the next.
- A proven passion for making disciples and developing teams in a multi-generational church.
- Team player with strong servant-leadership and communication skills within a large congregational context.
- Strong relational skills and compassionate understanding of personal issues.
- A willingness to cultivate close, accountable relationships with leaders, fostering a culture of trust, mutual care, encouragement, respect, and Christlike love.
- Be a self-starter with drive and passion, and a continual learner.
- Assent to the Statement of Faith, vision and mission of RHCBC and to comply with Baptist faith and practices.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of ministry experience.
- A Master Degree of Divinity (M Div.) or its equivalent in theological education from an Association of Theological Schools (ATS) accredited institution.
- Proficient in English (written and orally).
