Position Description

Gateway Baptist Church in Victoria BC is looking for a full-time Youth and Young Adults Pastor to join our team.

Gateway Church is a growing and thriving church of approximately 800 congregants. We see around 650 weekly attendants which has grown from 150 attendees in the past 12 years, under the leadership of our current Lead Pastor, Aaron Dyck. We are in the final stages of a building expansion project which will add 175 additional seats to our sanctuary. We have a history of healthy financial management and financial provision from God.

We place high value on Scripture, with weekly preaching revolving around the Word. We have vibrant worship culture and a wide range of worship expression with an engaged congregation. We are also a missionary people, engaged in outreach at home and abroad. Our goal is to see Kingdom transformation of persons and situations. We maintain a Biblical, orthodox, and historic position regarding the current social culture. We are a member of the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC). Prospective applicants need to be in agreement with the Canadian Baptist Identity statement and statement of faith. Our team is 6 long-tenured staff and we’re looking for someone to plant roots and grow here, investing in our staff, our youth and young adults, and the broader community. We were recently gifted another church property across town with the goal of a well-supported and integrated church plant. This role could grow into an integral role at that location.

Victoria is a beautiful waterfront city with temperate climate, a multitude of outdoor activities, and a highly secular community, offering the opportunity to make an out-sized impact. It is also home to a large university and college population.

What we are looking for:

• Someone to plant themselves here and stay long term
• Strong teaching/preaching skills
• Self-motivated and collaborative
• Someone to grow their ministries as the church grows, developing leaders to support. Our current Youth (13-17) is around 90 kids and our YA (18-25) is around 50
• Strong biblical knowledge and a commitment to deeper understanding
• Someone who values ministry that is scripture-based, Christ-centered, and Spirit-empowered
• Called to long-term pastoral ministry
• Passionate about Youth and YAs knowing the gospel and knowing God
• Already in, or prepared to relocate to Victoria BC

What you will do:

• Lead weekly Youth gatherings and teach weekly
• Develop leaders who will develop leaders
• Walk alongside parents to partner with them on tricky youth issues
• Strive to grow the Youth group to reach unchurched Youth in our community
• Work collaboratively with our established College & Careers program, and its volunteer leadership
• Preach to the full congregation once a month and involved in our weekly Sunday ministry
• Assist the Lead pastor with memorial services and weddings as needed
• Collaborate with the Children’s Pastor to oversee Preteen events once per month and preteen class on Sundays
• Collaborate around transitioning students in and out of their last/next seasons of life and discipleship
• Youth Mission’s trips and Camps

What you bring:

• 5+ years of pastoral experience
• Biblical training – Bachelor or Masters in theology or related is strongly preferred
• Desire to develop Youth and YAs and partner with parents and leadership
• Demonstrable preaching skills
• Continued education
• Growth mindset, both for yourself and for your ministry
