Position Description
Job Title: Christian Education Coordinator (Entry-Level Sunday School Teacher Track)
Position Type: Part-Time
Reports To: Minister / Church Session
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, spiritually mature, and dedicated individual to serve in our Christian Education ministry. This role begins as a Sunday School Teacher and is designed as a developmental pathway toward becoming the Coordinator of the overall Christian Education program.
This position is ideal for someone who feels called to ministry leadership, has a heart for discipleship, and desires to grow into a strategic role overseeing curriculum, volunteers, and faith formation initiatives.
Phase 1: Sunday School Teacher (Initial Role)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan and teach weekly Sunday School lessons for a range of age groups using curriculum provided.
- Create a safe, engaging, and spiritually nurturing classroom environment
- Encourage spiritual growth through prayer, Scripture, and Christian fellowship
- Communicate regularly with parents and church leadership
- Participate in monthly meetings
- Assist with special events & seasonal programs, etc.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated personal commitment to Jesus Christ
- Active participation in church life
- Experience working with children, youth, or adults in a ministry or educational setting
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Willingness to learn curriculum planning and ministry administration
Phase 2: Christian Education Coordinator (Leadership Role)
Upon demonstrated effectiveness, leadership ability, and spiritual maturity, the individual will transition into the role of Christian Education Coordinator.
Expanded Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire Christian Education program (children, youth, and adult education)
- Recruit, train, mentor, and support volunteer teachers
- Select, develop, and evaluate curriculum
- Coordinate ministry calendar and educational events
- Develop long-term discipleship strategies
- Manage education-related budgets and resources
- Work collaboratively with minister and church session
- Ensure child protection and safety policies are upheld
Leadership Qualifications:
- Proven teaching effectiveness and leadership capability
- Ability to cast vision and implement ministry strategy
- Strong administrative and team-building skills
- Theological training (formal or informal) preferred
- Commitment to ongoing spiritual and professional development
