Position Description

Denomination: The Presbyterian Church in Canada (Reformed Tradition)
Hours: 10-13 hours per week
Salary: Annual salary commensurate with the guidelines of the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO)

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Cobourg, Ontario, invites applications for the position of Part-Time Music
Director. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the music ministry of the congregation and support
the worship life of the church through skilled organ and piano accompaniment and the direction of volunteer
musicians.

Responsibilities

  • Lead weekly evening choir rehearsals from September through mid-June.
  • Conduct choir warm-up and rehearsal for at least 30 minutes prior to Sunday services.
  • Provide organ and/or piano accompaniment for 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services, including hymns, choral anthems, praise songs, soloists, duets, and small ensembles.
  • Provide music leadership for Christmas Eve, Good Friday, and other special services as required.
  • Direct the volunteer church choir and chime ensemble.
  • Maintain and expand the church’s music library.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability as an organist and pianist, including experience accompanying congregational singing and choirs.
  • Ability to direct and encourage a volunteer choir and chimers.
  • Formal music education is preferred, ideally with training consistent with the standards of the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO).
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with the minister and worship leaders.
  • A commitment to Christian Faith and to the worship of the church.
