Position Description
Canadian Chinese School of Theology Toronto (CCSTT) is a Christian seminary that prepares Christian leaders for ministry and global mission of the church. In partnership with Tyndale university, CCSTT offers fully accredited programs in Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese). CCSTT is located within the Tyndale campus. The Academic Dean of the Seminary, in consultation with the Principal, provides leadership and accountability for all matters academic and programmatic, ensuring that an academic environment of teaching, research and professional excellence is created and sustained for the CCSTT learning community.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
The Academic Dean sets educational standards and goals, manages and guide faculty to provide quality education to our students, ensures timely and accurate communication of academic matters with applicants and students, and gives insights into the strategic development of library resources with the librarian.
Senior Management Team
The Academic Dean is part of the Senior Management Team of CCSTT, reporting to the Principal and assisting the Principal in making institutional decisions. These include participating in the recruitment and hiring of faculty members, enhancing student life and the overall well-being of CCSTT as a learning community, as well as the strategic planning of CCSTT.
Finances
The Academic Dean is responsible for establishing and managing budget for the academic department.
Academics
The Academic Dean is responsible for both developing and overseeing all aspects related to academic management. These include developing and implementing academic programs and policies, establishing and reviewing curriculum, leading accreditation processes to ensure standards are met, assessing and improving the quality of teaching and research, addressing students concerns, resolving academic issues and disputes, maintaining and promoting high standards of academic integrity, leading and organizing academic events including students’ recruitment, commencement and graduation chapel.
External
As part of the Senior Management Team, the Academic Dean presents oneself as representing CCSTT at conferences and other official occasions. It is within the responsibility of the Academic Dean to ensure that CCSTT’s nature and aspirations are properly voiced out and represented at all times.
Position Qualifications
Education
- Earned doctorate in theology, biblical studies, pastoral or related discipline
Experience
- An accomplish academic leader in a university/seminary environment in progressively leadership roles
- Strong record of research and publication consistent with a faculty position and recognized academic status, preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong communicator (written and verbal) in English and Chinese (both Mandarin and Cantonese, preferred)
- Capacity to promote the highest standards of academic excellence in teaching and research
- Working knowledge of online learning and other modes of delivery
Personal Characteristics
- A career history demonstrating personal values such as integrity, openness, transparency, trust, respect for cultural and ethnic diversity, and a caring and respectful approach to all interpersonal relationships
- Demonstrated professionalism and tact, with the ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels
