Position Description

Stanley Park Community Church is looking for passionate, creative, high-capacity artist to work in a congregational setting for the summer as an Artist-in-Residence. This is a unique position requiring someone who is able to create visual art (painting, sketching, digital, etc), engage in contemplation/reflection on their work, and interact with the broader community regarding the role of the artist. 

This is a contract position (at $17.60/hour-adult or $16.60/hour-student) at 30 hours/week for 8 weeks with part of their time being spent working from home and the other part at the church building. This artist will spend most of their time creating but will also engage in meaningful reflection and communication with the broader congregation and key volunteers/staff.

Qualifications:

  • Between the ages of 15-30 (as per Canada Summer Job’s guidelines)
  • Collaborative
  • Willingness to break out of previous modes and styles
  • Self-disciplined
  • Must have own basic art supplies as these are not supplied (paint brushes/art easel/charcoals/pastels/pencils etc). Canvas’/paints and other consumables will be supplied as needed depending on the projects assigned.
  • Should be available to work 6 or more Sunday mornings (the weekdays worked are flexible as long as the total hours per week equals 30 hours).
  • Anticipated start date is June 1 but there is a possibility for some flexibility

Possible Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Decoration prep for summer Day Camp décor
  • Booth Display for Summer Community Booth
  • Digital/Video design (i.e. capturing, editing and managing video/photo content for our Social Media platforms)
  • Stage design
  • Decorations and decor for kids’ ministry rooms
  • Reflection journal (this may also include ideas and sketches)
  • Assist in WR Art Hunt event
  • Other art-related events
  • Weekly meeting with supervisor
  • Other artistic projects as assigned
