Position Description
Ministry Overview:
This position is responsible for developing and leading a culturally relevant and effective Family Life Ministries program at Wesley Community Church in Pembroke, Ontario. The position would primarily oversee the Children’s Ministry, KidsVenture, and have an oversight of the Youth Ministry which is currently led by a volunteer leader. There would also be a hope of a Young Adult Ministry beginning. Wesley Community Church is part of The Wesleyan Church.
Primary Ministry Objectives:
- To develop and oversee programs and teams of volunteers to evangelize and disciple children and youth within the church and within the surrounding community in becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus.
- To nurture, resource, and encourage parents and grandparents as they take an active role in their spiritual, emotional and physical formation of their children and teenagers.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop effective Children’s and Youth ministry programs and events to reach, retain, and develop the next generation of Christ-followers.
- To recruit, train, resource, and support teams of teens and adults to serve the spiritual and emotional needs of the children and teens in our church.
- To develop support for parents and grandparents which will enable them to effectively parent their children/grandchildren in ways that honour God.
- To work with the church’s treasurer to develop and oversee the budget necessary for an effective children’s and youth ministries.
Skills and Experiences: The ideal candidate will possess
- A pastoral heart and passion for seeing children and youth come to and grow in their faith in Jesus Christ.
- Team building and vision casting skills.
- A combination of leadership and administrative skills.
- A concern for resourcing and supporting parents and grandparents as they seek to provide for and support their children in becoming devoted followers of Christ.
Expectations:
- To maintain a vibrant, growing, surrendered relationship with Christ.
- To attend and fully participate as a great team member in the weekly staff meetings, and other church related meetings.
- To maintain excellent relationships and open communications with all staff, especially the lead pastor.
- To maintain exemplary attitudes and lifestyles that aligns with the expectations articulated in the “Discipline” of the Wesleyan church.
- To participate and help provide pastoral leadership at public worship services, pastoral visitation, and assisting at special events such as funerals, weddings, baby-dedications, etc.
- To annually participate in Continuing Education opportunities.
Salary and Benefits:
- This is a Full-time position. Salary and benefits will be negotiated with the leading candidate based on their years of ministry experience.
Accountability:
- This pastoral role is directly accountable to the lead pastor, and through him to the Local Board of Administration
