Position Description
The Director of Children’s Ministry, reporting to the Pastor of Family Ministry of Grace Toronto, is a full-time role on a 13 months contract for maternity leave coverage.
The successful candidate will be a gospel-centred, missional and prayerful leader. They will oversee a growing ministry with about 90 children. Moreover, they will be mobilizing and managing a roster of 100 volunteers, catalyzing various ministry initiatives, and implementing a ministry structure that effectively disciples children at Grace Toronto Church.
The ultimate goal is to help our children to experience the love of Jesus through scripture and a gospel-centered environment. This director would have a heart for families living, working, and serving in a global city context.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial and theologically driven spiritual leader who is eager to exercise their ministry calling in a missional and multiplying global city church context.
Primary Areas of Responsibility
They would be responsible for these primary objectives:
1. Spiritual Leadership [35-40%]
- implementing the spiritual vision for GTKids in collaboration with the Family Ministry Pastor
- regularly teach the children on Sundays (ages and grades will depend on the needs of each week)
- provide spiritual care to parents and children through check-ins, prayers, gatherings or events
- oversee the children’s ministry curriculum
- implements the spiritual vision through communication with the parents and training the volunteers
- works with the Family Ministry Pastor to evaluate opportunities for ministry growth and volunteer training
- uses data collected by KidCheck to assess classroom projections, future ministry growth, and other ways useful to the ministry
- organizes and runs mom’s groups across the city as needed to meet the spiritual and relational needs of the moms in our church
- work with the Family Ministry Pastor to launch new and innovative events for families that cater to their spiritual, social and discipleship needs
- plan the content
- mobilize volunteers to run the event
- manage the logistics of the event
2. Oversee Children’s Ministry Volunteers [35-40%]
- shepherd / minister volunteers through check-ins, prayers, gatherings or events
- communicates with prospective volunteers about the application process (application form, background check, interview)
- provide training to the volunteers to ensure they are equipped to teach and deliver the weekly curriculum
- regularly works to recruit and process new volunteers
- creates the volunteering schedule every three months on Planning Center
- ensure the volunteers have sufficient training to follow proper safety procedures
- updates and maintain data files important for communication with volunteers and parents
- corresponds with volunteers on a weekly basis, ensuring that all classrooms are appropriately staffed on any given week
3. Sunday Morning Logistics [10%]
- processes weekly paperwork necessary for Sunday Morning Programs
- provides on-site support as a classroom teacher when necessary
- provides technical support and understanding of KidCheck, our electronic check-in system
- provides leadership to the Welcome Desk team (ie. supervisors, welcome desk volunteers, and KidCheck attendants)
- arrives thirty minutes before the weekly worship service and stay thirty minutes after the service to perform such tasks as: fielding volunteer questions and concerns, processing paperwork, verifying supply needs for the various classrooms
4. Be a participating member of the staff team [10% ]
- Participate in weekly staff meetings
- Attend weekly staff development meetings (e.g. prayer meetings, theological trainings, leadership developments, etc…)
- Follow up on irregular tasks initiated at the staff meeting
Requirements and Competencies
The suitable candidate will meet the biblical standards of Christian character that befits a Christian leader, as set out in our Employee Manual and the criteria for leaders described in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
They will be comfortable with our system of doctrine and practice, as elucidated in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Presbyterian Church in America Book of Church Order. They will be comfortable with our expression of the role of men and women in ministry and life, notably, our commitment to a humble and peaceable expression of biblical complementarianism and elder-led ecclesiology.

- Formal theological education/ training
3. Experience (desired):
- Experience in children’s ministry leadership
- Experience in starting a ministry, business venture, or other social initiative
4. Spiritual and Emotional/Mental Demands:
- May have to work odd or long hours on occasion to manage an urgent shepherding issue
- Spiritually caring for families who may be dealing with emotionally heavy, complex and sensitive life issues
5. Other requirements:
- Legally able to work in Canada
- Successfully passed the vulnerable sector check
Hours and Compensation:
The suitable candidate would be willing to work 40 hours per week from Sundays to Thursdays with the flexibility to work on Saturdays occasionally. This is a 13 months contract covering a maternity leave.
The salary for this role is $70,000 and extended health benefits will also be provided for this position.
