Position Description

Role of the Sunday School Pastor/Director of Children’s ministry:  

The Pastor of children’s ministry is responsible for cultivating a positive working relationship with the staff and the congregation.   You are also the senior pastor’s representative to the congregation and community. A positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills are required.

This staff position is often involved in sensitive situations and the handling of privileged information which requires discretion. You must maintain strict confidentiality, when dealing with these Pastoral, Board or Congregational related issues.

Caring for your own soul and leading a spiritually healthy life for others to follow are extremely important.

The Director of Children’s Ministry reports to the senior Pastor, working with the guidance of Education director or Deacon.   

Role Summary

• To provide leadership and vision to the children’s ministry 
• To develop a philosophy of ministry that is consistent and compatible to the vision and values of the church
• To shepherd the children of the church
• To create strategic initiatives that assist the children’s ministry to reach its objectives
• To partner with families in the nurture and development of their children

Expectations

Part Time: 20 hours per week.

• Responsible for Sunday worship service (11:15am – 12:30 pm), and  Friday evening program (7:30 pm – 9:20 pm)
• Responsible for scheduling weekly volunteers. This includes weekly reminder phone calls and/or emails to scheduled volunteers.
• Responsible for training teachers.  
• Responsible for engaging in hands-on teaching during Sunday morning and deliver messages during worship.
• Responsible for curriculum distribution for Kindergarten Class and Gr.1-6 Class.  
• Responsible for leading and organizing Vacation Bible School for children. 
• Responsible for leading and organizing two or three day events during Spring Break, Christmas break and Summer break.
• Responsible for organizing special presentation on some special Sundays such as Mother’s Day, Easter and Christmas.
• Conduct meetings with parents to open communication
• Prepare monthly or quarterly newsletters, when or as needed, to provide information on direction and plans for the Sunday school.
• Meet any other needs that may arise in the Children’s ministry.

Requirements: 

Graduated from a Bible college or Seminary, or currently pursuing a degree.  Minimum two years of experience as a Sunday school coordinator.  Able to meet the screening for Vulnerable Sector police check.
