Position Description
4 days / 30 hours a week.
North York (Chinese) Baptist Church is looking for a Christian finance professional to provide financial management in the areas of accounting, reporting, budgeting, and cash management.
The position reports to the Senior Pastor for supervision and functionally reports to the Treasurer on the financial responsibilities outlined in the job description. The position supervises one Part Time Finance Administrator for day-to-day matters.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage payroll, employee records, benefits, pension and health deductions, tax reporting, and employee lifecycle administration, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare quarterly, and year-end financial statements and reports, including adjusting entries, reconciliations, and draft unaudited statements with notes.
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, investment analysis, and banking activities, including deposits, offerings, and major transaction monitoring.
- Maintain records of investments and GICs; monitor maturities and recommend renewal or cash management strategies.
- Collaborate with Property Management on leasing operations, including rental accounting, rent collection, TMI reconciliation, and financial impact analysis.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and consolidate annual budgets, mid-year forecasts, and ministry and rental budgets.
- Conduct variance and trending analysis to monitor financial performance and operational risks.
- Prepare and present financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, to the Board of Deacons, Treasury Team, and Church membership.
Audit, Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
- Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors on financial statements, internal controls, and information requests.
- Ensure compliance with public financial disclosure, CRA charity requirements, and regulatory filings.
- Review quarterly HST filings and complete the Annual Ontario Corporation Return, including director updates.
- Prepare financial information and supporting documentation for government filings, subsidy applications, mortgage reviews, and external inquiries.
- Act as the primary contact for CRA, auditors, and regulatory or financial correspondence.
Financial Oversight & Advisory
- Under guidance of the Treasurer, monitor and evaluate the Church’s overall financial health, identify financial issues, risks, and emerging concerns for recommendations to the Treasury team and the Board.
- Execute and follow through on financial decisions and strategic initiatives approved by leadership.
- Participate as a non-voting member of the Treasury Team.
- Support special projects and backup the PT Finance Administrator as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Mature Christian with senior-level accounting and finance experience in private, public, or non-profit organizations.
- Demonstrate ability to provide financial leadership in support of the church’s mission, ministry, and operational objectives.
- Experience in property management accounting is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, financial management, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
- Experience and proficiency with QuickBooks.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills with staff, leadership, and volunteers.
- Fluent in spoken and written English; proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin, as well as written Chinese, is considered an asset.
- CPA designation is considered a strong asset
