Position Overview:
The TCK Coordinator serves as an advocate for SIM Canada missionary families and their Third Culture Kids (TCKs). Recognizing the unique opportunities and challenges experienced by children who grow up between cultures, this role promotes their overall well-being and supports healthy development throughout their family's ministry journey.
The TCK Coordinator provides care, guidance, and resources to TCKs and their families, helping parents navigate the complexities of raising children in cross-cultural environments. This role coordinates appropriate support services, facilitates access to relevant resources, and works collaboratively with families and the member care team to ensure that the needs of TCKs are understood and addressed.
Committed to SIM Canada's mission of caring well for missionary families, the TCK Coordinator helps foster resilience, belonging, and healthy adjustment among TCKs as they transition between cultures and life stages.
This position reports directly to the Director of Personnel and serves as part of the Member Care Team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Advocate for the well-being and healthy development of SIM Canada's TCKs and support missionary families throughout their ministry journey.
- Participate in the screening and assessment process for missionary families, helping identify and respond to the needs of TCKs before, during, and after service.
- Coordinate and facilitate orientation programs and resources that prepare children and families for cross-cultural living and ministry.
- Provide guidance and support to families as they navigate educational options and transitions at various stages of missionary service.
- Maintain regular contact with TCKs and their families through encouragement, care initiatives, and recognition of significant life events and milestones.
- Assess family and TCK needs through pre-assignment consultations, home assignment debriefings, and ongoing member care conversations.
- Connect families with appropriate TCK, educational, and missionary family resources, and advocate for available support programs, funding opportunities, and specialized care services.
- Collaborate with SIM Canada personnel, receiving offices, and international partners to address concerns affecting TCKs and participate in decision-making related to family care and support.
- Serve as the primary liaison with SIM International TCK ministries and networks, fostering collaboration and access to global TCK care resources.
- Promote prayer and awareness for TCKs by developing and distributing prayer and communication resources to supporters, staff, and ministry partners.
- Maintain accurate records and data related to TCKs and their educational and care needs.
- Remain informed on best practices in TCK care, education, and member care through ongoing professional development, networking, and participation in relevant conferences, consultations, webinars, and professional groups.
Qualifications:
- A committed Christian with a deep and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is demonstrated in Christ-like character and integrity.
- Active involvement in a local church and a personal commitment to Christian ministry.
- Diploma or degree in education, child and youth development, counselling, social work, intercultural studies, missions, or a related field preferred.
- Experience supporting TCKs, missionary families, or children and youth in cross-cultural environments is highly desirable.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant ministry experience will be considered.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must agree with SIM’s Statement of Faith, Core Values in theory and practice
- Sensitivity and discernment in dealing with children, parents and families.
Good To Have:
- Education background, cross-cultural experience, but not required.
- Vulnerable Sector Clearance – if not, will be requested before employment.
- Child safety training (if not, training will be provided for the successful candidate)
