Position Summary
The Finance Assistant supports the day-to-day financial administration of Grace Church on-the-Hill.
Under the supervision of the Finance Manager, the role supports Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, contribution and expense processing, financial records, and month-end and year-end activities.
The Finance Assistant works within established financial controls and collaborates with the Director of Operations and other members of the parish team. The responsibilities below are representative and are not exhaustive.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
Process invoices, payments, expense claims, contributions, deposits and receivables.
Confirm appropriate coding, approvals and supporting documentation, and maintain accurate vendor, receivable and contribution records.
2. Reconciliations and Reporting
Assist with bank, credit card and other account reconciliations; investigate discrepancies and escalate unresolved issues.
Support month-end and year-end processes, budgeting, financial reporting, and preparation of audit or financial review documentation.
3. Financial Records and Controls
Maintain complete and organized financial records and supporting documentation.
Follow established financial policies, approval authorities, internal controls and confidentiality requirements.
4. Systems and Administrative Support
Use accounting software, Microsoft 365 and electronic document-management systems to support accurate and efficient financial administration.
Help improve and document routine financial processes, provide limited Finance-related administrative support, and perform other duties consistent with the role.

What You Bring to the Role
Required
- At least two years of bookkeeping, accounting, financial administration or related experience.
- Working knowledge of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, expense processing, financial coding and reconciliations.
- Experience maintaining financial records and supporting documentation within established controls and approval processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Experience using accounting or bookkeeping software, with strong communication skills and sound professional judgment.
Assets
- Post-secondary education or certification in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, business administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with PowerChurch.
- Experience in a church, charity or nonprofit environment, including donations, charitable contributions or restricted funds.
- Experience with SharePoint, electronic document management or digital approval workflows.
Hours of Work
This is a part-time, on-site position – 300 Lonsdale Rd. Toronto - for 15 hours per week. Specific days and hours will be established in consultation with the successful candidate based on operational requirements, with a consistent weekly schedule normally expected.
Compensation
The compensation range for this position is $30-$35 per hour. The starting rate will be determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
