Assistant Pastor (Full-Time) for Connections and Women’s Ministry
Assistant Pastor (Full-Time) for Connections and Women’s Ministry
Mississauga, Ontario , L4V 1Y3
Position Description
Church Description
New Hope Fellowship is an English Ministry of Light Presbyterian Church and has a network of three campuses in the Greater Toronto Area. Mississauga Campus is a growing church community (current Sunday attendance of around 300 adults and 150 children with over 120 members actively serving in various ministries). We exist to glorify God by helping all people move towards Christ together. We are devoted to prayer and God’s word to guide and fuel our life and ministry. We value authentic fellowship, teamwork, and every-member-ministry through which the body of Christ is built up to the fullness of Christ. We endeavor to spread the glory of God through our missions locally and globally.
Position Summary
With a growing number of new people joining our church, the assistant pastor joining our team will be overseeing various aspect of connections ministry and women’s ministry. Overseeing connections ministry will include helping people connect to Christ, to our church, to the next steps in their faith, and to ministries where they are called and gifted to serve. Overseeing women’s ministry will include providing vision, planning, and pastoral oversight in partnership with a team of women leaders.
Key Responsibilities
A. Welcome and Hospitality Teams
- Team leadership: Recruit, train, schedule, and shepherd the Welcome Team (greeters, ushers, welcome/information desk, newcomers table) and the Hospitality Team (fellowship time, refreshments, and shared meals).
- Structure and training: Develop a clear and relational pathway from first contact → first visit → follow-up → connection → participation → next step. Recruit, train, schedule, equip, encourage, and pastor volunteers serving in greeting, hospitality, welcome, information, and newcomer connection roles.
- Welcome environment: Maintain a clearly marked welcome area and newcomer experience each Sunday, including connection cards, welcome gifts, and introductions to staff and ministry leaders.
- Pastoral presence: Be a visible, approachable pastoral presence before and after each service, personally greeting newcomers and key families and intentionally looking for people who are new, alone, confused, or in need of connection.
- Conference hospitality: Serve as the coordinator for hosting various conferences at our church to serve the greater body of Christ in the city.
B. Newcomer Follow-Up and Assimilation
- Assimilation pathway: Design, implement, and continually refine a clear pathway from first visit to belonging (e.g., connection card, personal follow-up, newcomer lunch or class, membership, small group, serving team).
- Timely follow-up: Ensure every first-time guest receives personal contact (call, text, email, or visit) within 48 hours, and that returning guests receive further personal invitations.
- Warm hand-offs: Partner closely with children’s, youth, young adult, adult, and small-group ministry leaders so that every individual and family is personally introduced to an age-appropriate ministry—not merely given information about it.
- Newcomer gatherings: Host regular newcomer lunches or receptions; lead a short small group experience for newcomers.
- Records and care: Maintain accurate records of guests, follow-up, and ministry involvement in the church management system, and flag pastoral care needs to the appropriate staff. Track newcomer engagement so that people do not “fall through the cracks.” Continually evaluate the newcomer journey and identify places where people may be getting lost, overlooked, or disconnected.
C. Spiritual Gifts and Serving Opportunities
- Cross-ministry connection: Build strong working relationships with children’s, youth, adult, discipleship, worship, missions, and other ministry leaders.
- Gifts discovery: Develop and lead a regular gifts-discovery process (e.g., a class, assessment, and personal conversation) that helps newcomers and existing members understand how God has gifted them for the building up of the body (Romans 12:3–8; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:11–16).
- Serving placement: Lead annual (or semi-annual) ministry fair to showcase various ministries of the church. Work with ministry leaders to create clear serving pathways and appropriate opportunities for people to use their gifts across New Hope.
- Serving opportunities directory: Work with ministry leaders to maintain a current list of serving needs and role descriptions across the church (worship, children, youth, hospitality, outreach, missions, administration, facilities, and more).
- Volunteer health: Track serving involvement, watch for both under-involvement and burnout, and help members serve in sustainable, life-giving ways.
- Celebrate and equip: Regularly celebrate volunteers and partner with ministry leaders to provide ongoing training and appreciation.
D. Relational Outreach Ministry (Alpha and Sports)
- Develop additional relational environments where seekers, skeptics, newcomers, and spiritually curious people can explore faith and encounter the Christian community.
- Provide pastoral oversight and leadership for Alpha, working with a team of dedicated Alpha core team to run regular Alpha courses throughout the year.
- Oversee the sports ministry (e.g., softball, basketball, volleyball, pickleball, hiking, or other recreation) as important social spaces for members as well as relational outreach into the community.
- Raise up lay coordinators and team captains who keep each ministry gospel-intentional through prayer, fellowship, and invitations to church events and Alpha.
- Ensure that friends and family members reached through sports ministries are welcomed and followed up through the assimilation pathway.
E. Women’s Ministry
- Oversee New Hope Fellowship’s Women’s Ministry, providing vision, planning, and pastoral oversight in partnership with a team of women leaders.
- Ensure Women’s Ministry contributes to the larger discipleship pathway of New Hope rather than functioning as a disconnected ministry.
- Coordinate women’s gatherings, Bible studies, discipleship opportunities, retreats, mentoring, and other ministry initiatives in collaboration with the pastoral team.
- Raise up, equip, and shepherd women leaders to lead Bible studies, mentoring relationships, retreats, and fellowship gatherings.
- Foster discipleship and intergenerational relationships among women (Titus 2:3–5), including connecting newly arrived women to the community.
F. Leadership, Collaboration, and General Pastoral Duties
- Identify, equip, and shepherd volunteer leaders across all Connections ministries, building teams rather than doing ministry alone.
- Collaborate with staff on church-wide outreach events (e.g., Easter, Christmas, VBS, community events) to ensure guests are welcomed and followed up.
- Ensure all volunteers comply with church policies, including background checks and child-safety procedures.
- Participate in general pastoral ministry as assigned: occasional preaching or teaching, pastoral care and visitation, and assisting with various pastoral ministries.

A. Spiritual Character
- A mature and growing follower of Jesus Christ whose life reflects the qualifications for pastoral leadership described in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9.
