About Cornerstone Chinese Alliance Church
Cornerstone Chinese Alliance Church is part of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada. We have Cantonese and English congregations.
This position is for our English congregation, which is a vibrant, diverse, and active community of youths, young adults and families. Our leadership team is growing in cultural diversity, and we warmly welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
Role Summary
The Young Adults and Family Pastor will lead ministry with young adults ages 18 to mid 30s, including post-secondary students, and will foster a community of families with young children.
The role focuses on discipleship, preaching, teaching, community life, and pastoral care, in line with our theology and ethos.
Key Responsibilities
Post-Secondary Students
- Stay in touch with out-of-town students through online small groups, calls, and messages
- Plan gatherings, small groups, and discipleship paths for in-town students
- Plan a simple rhythm for students during the school year and a clear ministry plan for summers and breaks
Young adults
- Plan gatherings, small groups, and discipleship paths for young adults
- Provide clear, biblical, Christ centered teaching
- Build a welcoming community that helps young adults encounter Jesus, grow in resilient faith, and live on mission
Families with Young Children
- Focus on fostering a caring community of families with young children in the English congregation
- Support and equip parents as primary disciplers of their children
- Work with children and youth leaders so there is a clear discipleship pathway from childhood into adulthood
- Plan classes or groups on marriage, parenting, and family life from a biblical perspective
- Provide simple tools that encourage family worship and faith practices at home
- Help lead family events and outreach, and share in pastoral care for families
Leadership and General Pastoral Work
- Recruit, train, and encourage volunteers in young adult and family ministries
- Build healthy teams and ensure safe ministry environments that follow church and C&MA policies
- Help plan and manage related budgets and resources
- Preach and teach on Sundays
- Carry out age-appropriate discipleship programs and support congregants’ life-stage transitions
- Join in pastoral care, staff meetings, and regional meetings as required
- Accountable to the Lead Pastor of the English ministry, the Senior pastor and the church board.
- Willing to serve as a team with CCAC leadership. Be a blessing to all members of CCAC. Facilitate the English ministry to work together with CCAC in unity and love.
Qualifications
- Mature and growing relationship with Jesus, evident Christian character and the fruit of the Spirit
- Clear call to serve young adults ages 18 to mid 30s
- Experience in ministry with young adults, students, or families, in paid or significant volunteer position
- Ability to teach the Bible clearly in person and online
- Strong relational skills with young adults, students, parents, and children, and is comfortable serving in a multicultural church family
- Ability to recruit and equip volunteers, with good organization and communication skills
- Agreement with the Statement of Faith and ethos of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada
- Willingness to pursue C&MA licensing and ordination or consecration if not already credentialed
- M. Div degree from an accredited Seminary
- Proficiency in English is required
Practical Details
- Position Title: English Assistant Pastor - Young Adults and Family
- Status: Full time, one year contract with potential to become permanent
- Hours: About 40 hours per week, including Sundays and some evenings and weekends
- Compensation: Salary and benefits in line with education, experience, and guidelines provided by the ECD of C&MA Canada
