Position Description

BFM Foundation (Canada) is a national Christian organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across Canada. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada. These funds are used to establish adult literacy programs, provide church planter training, children’s ministry programs, and distribute Bibles in many places around the world. The stores are operated primarily by dedicated volunteers.

Mission Thrift Store – London North is seeking a Cashier and Clothing Associate who shares and supports the vision and purpose of BFM Foundation (Canada). The ideal candidate will enjoy working with the public, bring a friendly and positive attitude, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, while maintaining a neat appearance and professional demeanor. An understanding of the needs and wants of thrift store customers, as well as the ability to provide exceptional service, are essential. This role also requires knowledge of inventory control and pricing, along with some flexibility in work hours.

The Cashier and Clothing Associate must have proficient knowledge, experience, skills, and personal attributes in the following areas:

Knowledge

  • Inventory control and pricing
  • Office policies and procedures
  • Non-profits/volunteer organizations
  • Experience
  • 1+ year of retail sales and customer service (including use of a cash register and POS system)
  • Previous work with volunteers is an asset

  • Ability to ensure smooth checkouts and operate cash registers while handling cash, debit, and credit card transactions with accuracy and efficiency

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary Activities:

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with customers, volunteers, and staff
  • Greet and assist customers, answer questions about clothing styles, sizes, and availability
  • Maintain an accurate cash drawer and count funds in the register when required
  • Perform basic math functions to handle cash, collect payments, and make change
  • Operate POS systems, cash registers, scanners, and credit card/debit card terminals
  • Ensure that the cash area and sales floor are clean, clear, and meet safety standards
  • Ensure that clothing displays, racks, and shelves are organized, stocked, and visually appealing
  • Memorize product/clothing locations throughout the store and be able to help/direct customers or make recommendations
  • Assist with receiving, tagging, pricing, restocking, and monitoring inventory levels
  • Resolve any customer issues or concerns that may arise on the floor and at the checkout, while ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and bag purchases for customers at the checkout

Secondary Activities:

  • Standing and walking for most of the day, often in a constrained sorting and retail space
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and stretching
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Other duties as assigned by Management
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays

HOURS OF WORK

  • Part-Time – Up to two (2) days per week

COMPENSATION

  • $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
