JOB POSTING (Full-Time)
BFM Foundation Canada is a national Christian organization with over 50 Mission Thrift Stores across the country. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation Canada and Bible League Canada (BLC). These funds are used to establish adult and children’s literacy programs, church planter training, and distribute Bibles in many places around the world. The stores are operated primarily by dedicated volunteers.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Training Supervisor must have strong relational qualities and be able to train volunteers to work effectively in their departments. He/She must reflect Christ in behavior and be vibrant, passionate, and have an entrepreneurial spirit in their leadership. A solid understanding of thrift store customers is essential, as is the ability to inspire volunteers to deliver exceptional customer service. Knowledge of inventory control, pricing, delegation, separation of duties, marketing, advertising, and financial management is also required. Working alongside the Store Manager and other Supervisors, this leader will help maximize production and sales floor success by modeling a strong work ethic and promoting cleanliness throughout the store. He/She will also contribute to building and maintaining relationships with local Churches, charities, and community organizations partnered with Mission Thrift Store Kingston.
The Training Supervisor will report to the Store Manager, and assist the Production Supervisor and Retail Supervisor.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
- Work with the Store Manager to oversee the day-to-day activities of the store.
- Manage “Better Impact” software with volunteer information.
- Review organizational policies, procedures, rights, and responsibilities with each volunteer to ensure knowledge of the organization and our ministry’s purpose.
- Provide orientation and training specific to the responsibilities of all new and existing volunteers.
- Ensure that all provincial and federal safety requirements have been provided and delivered to create a positive, respectful, cooperative, and rewarding work experience for all volunteers.
- Supervise all co-op, high school, and individual volunteers from other agencies.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with volunteers and staff.
- Help recruit, interview, and select well-qualified volunteers, in consultation with the Store Manager.
- Communicate regularly with volunteers, staff, and customers to gain community support and to solicit input to improve the stores’ activities.
- Resolve any customer issues or concerns that may arise, while ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Assist in training, guiding, developing, and motivating team members to reach and exceed their full potential.
- Assign daily tasks to volunteers in the absence of Supervisors.
- Occasionally lead daily devotions, and potentially offer prayer and Bible reading with volunteers.
- Participate proactively and creatively in the store’s ongoing fundraising efforts.
- Key Holder responsibilities include opening and closing the store.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes working some evenings until 6:30pm and at least one Saturday per month.
- Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- At least 1 year of retail experience.
- Experience managing people: Engagement, conflict management, and crisis intervention are preferred.
- Experience working in a not-for-profit organization is preferred.
- Retail warehousing and/or receiving are preferred.
- Commercial driving experience is an asset.
Abilities:
- Knowledge of office policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of cash register operation, including cash, debit/credit cards, and register receipts.
Skills:
- Be organized and neat.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills; be able to solve problems with good judgment and make decisions independently.
- Effective verbal, written, and listening communications skills.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
- Time management skills.
- Positive and helpful attitude toward customers, including the ability to speak clearly and convey information accurately.

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Combination of natural light and fluorescent/LED lighting.
- Crouching, kneeling, stooping, and bending for long periods of time – major job function.
- Walking or standing for long periods of time – major job function.
- Sitting for long periods of time at a computer – minor job function.
- Potential for conflict with people (internally or externally) that may be unforeseen.
- Capable of lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.
COMPENSATION EXPECTATIONS
Starting wage will be $20.00 - $24.00 per hour.
